Walls Will Fall

Mazen Kerbaj – the 28 Trumpets of Jericho

“Walls Will Fall” is a site-specific composition by Mazen Kerbaj that will guide 28 Berlin trumpet players through the unique acoustics of the Genezarethkirche. According to the Old Testament, Jericho’s walls collapsed under the sound of seven trumpeters, blowing their horns for seven days while circling around the city. Far from the religious background of the story, it is the idea of music breaking walls and barriers that is central to this composition. During the performance of “Walls Will Fall,” the Genezarethkirche’s natural reverberation becomes the accomplice of every sound and movement.

From 2023 to 2025 I played an hour of love songs on Sunday evenings from a little studio behind Keith Bar in Neukölln.

Sixties soul one minute, jangly indie or a synth-drenched new wave heartbreaker the next. The only rule was that it had to be a love song.

There were fifty shows, a dozen or so with a theme or a special guest, and now they all live in one place.

𝘽𝙚𝙞𝙧𝙪𝙩 𝘽𝙞𝙧𝙙𝙨 (طيور بيروت) is a sonic memory capsule that interweaves live improvisations, interviews, field recordings, and sounds of objects that symbolize migration. When performed live, it is accompanied by juxtaposed images of the Lebanese capital‘s city life and avian migration across the Mediterranean Sea, reflecting themes integral to the music. The songs are enriched by Nour Sokhon’s improvisations on classical piano, electronics, synthesizers, violin, and various percussion instruments.

Duncan Blair of The Fingers and The Mummers, also one host of the popular Keith F‘eM radio show Fuddle Duddle, together with his 11 year old co-DJ Dinosaur Oskar.

Pictured here getting ready to play live last Friday, July 24th, 2026, at the very stark and bright SP2, the gallery space next to Keith Bar on Schillerpromenade in Neukölln.

Besides sharing a bunch of his folky songs and a Townes Van Zandt cover, unplugged and unamplified, in front of a very attentive audience of assorted regulars and strangers, Duncan exhibited paintings from his recent "Random Permanence" series, characterised by striking colour palettes and crowded landscapes of little symbols.

I’m trying to get him to play The Matinee. Fingers crossed we‘ll have him soon.
