I just read that George Chuvalo passed away. He was an impressive man with a terribly challenging life. Take some time to research him if you haven’t already.

As students everywhere get ready to begin another school year and my boys begin college and university, I wanted to bring attention to two EXCEPTIONAL teachers that helped get them where they are and helped shaped who they became.

Aidan’s and Brandon’s Grade 6 Homeroom and Math teacher, Mme Natalie Cormier, changed our boys’ academic experience fundamentally! She welcomed them to a new stage of life, challenged them to grow and lead them with passion and vision. Mme Cormier helped reignite an interest in learning that had faltered since Mr. Chris Treadwell (former elementary school principal worthy of his own post and much praise) had masterfully inspired them and countless other children during his lengthy tenure.

And then in Grade 11/12, my boys were so very fortunate to study Physics under Mr. Alex Harris. Mr. Harris left his first career to pursue his interest in education and we (and so many others) are blessed by this decision! He captured his students attention and motivated them to learn and look for new challenges. It was following the boys graduation that Mr. Harris gathered his students on the lawn, took some group photos and sent them forward with an amazing speech…I was fortunate to capture some of what he had to say in the attached clip.

In writing this post, I omit many that helped my boys along the way because there were indeed many and for that, I apologize.
But I wanted to recognize the exceptional teachers that played such a significant role in shaping my boys.
Thank you, Natalie, Alex and Chris (yes, that’s three, not two)!!

So my son, Aidan, just got back from a Volleyball tournament in Montreal early Monday morning.

The teams were expected to provide lines men (to indicate whether a ball was in or out of court boundaries) for other teams' games and Aidan was volunteered.

Aidan was in relatively low spirits after having just lost his own previous game. The referee told Aidan that she wanted more from him (i.e. that he wasn’t being demonstrative enough in his flagging); the results follow below…

Thank you to Kim Kelly for providing the footage (unbeknownst to Aidan) and Rachel Van Raalte for putting the video edit and music together!!! Well done!

The attached seemed particularly useful on the first day of the year (ok, it’s actually after midnight now so day 2, admittedly).
No I can’t claim to have combed through my extensive literary library over Christmas and found it…but it did come across my feed and I enjoyed it. I hope you do as well. by @keith.tower.52
