So I took an unexpected two week trip to close out this gem of a year.

First stop - impromptu flight to Nashville, followed by a three hour drive in my rented Mustang convertible (not the OG rental choice but the universe smiled upon me and my best high school dreams came true 😂😂). The destination was new for me - Florence, Alabama…

For what reason did I decide to show up in Florence a few days before the Christmas holiday with two days notice??
@dermotkennedy and @juliecarterdance and @catherinemcgeoch OBVIOUSLY (unfortunately @catherinemcgeoch kept trying to run away from us and did not make@it into the video as a result 😂😂😂🤦🏼‍♀️😤🥺

This, I can honestly say, was the highlight of 2022. Just unbelievable to get to dance next to you again but this time in your hometown @juliecarterdance ❤️❤️❤️ AND getting to dance your always exceptional choreography to the artist we love the most.

I miss you so much always and I can’t wait to come back in the Spring for Duets - you truly are so so talented and our friendship makes me a better human. Only a few years ago I first stepped into your class and as a result you’ve inspired me to initiate collaboration between dancers and genres, explore my own desire to create, and your support was instrumental in my own confidence to begin this journey into choreographic exploration. You created such an inclusive and supportive environment in your room - you brought us all together from so many walks of life and I can’t imagine not having made these friendships that your class initiated.

Thank you for always being there for me and listening to my insanity, no matter how busy you are or how far away. Your support this past year and friendship has meant more to me than you know and I know you are on the way to AMAZING things in Florence. I can’t wait to see how you shape the dancers and dance community there - I fully believe the success in your future is going to be something special and you will continue to inspire no matter where you are!
We love Dermot in this room. I loved the freedom of this beautiful combo (and I mean its not an easy one)!! 🙌🫶🏼🤣🙏

Once upon a time in NYC AT @stepsonbroadway there was a class taught by one of the best humans I have ever met, Julie Carter @juliecarterdance. Every year on a dancer’s birthday, she began a tradition. The birthday 🙆‍♂️ or 🙆🏼‍♀️would request a song - any song - and Julie would choreograph a special combo for said birthday 👸🏼/🤴/🫅. This tradition lasted through the years, through covid zoomie days, from studio to studio, class to class, year to year.
Then one day, Julie moved to Alabama for a new chapter in life with her amazing family to continue sharing her talent with a new group of dancers.
Back in NYC, it was time to continue the tradition when the first birthday came around. “How could this wonderful, incredible space that Julie had created fade away??” they asked themselves. This group of dancers who had all found each other through this class decided to get together and dance for the first time since the last class (yep, we danced to Sweet Home Alabama on that bittersweet Monday night in August).
Julie taught the combo in the Alabama studio, @catherinemcgeoch and @kaitlyndee_ showed up from their homes outside of NYC to join the zoomies, and @schmidty_kitty @kayla.armgardt @vickmerms @orit.hirsch @mollyapeterson @marikachris (who took charge to organize it all) came together for the first time since Julie’s departure in a rented studio to continue the birthday tradition!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
This was the result.
Now, this is where typically THE END is stated. But the story isn’t over - there is NO BYE and no end. Only beautiful memories and excitement for the zoomie days ahead.

Julie, as always, you made the most amazing combo to our FAVORITE @dermotkennedy (we love Dermot Kennedy in this room)!! Words cannot express how grateful I am to have learned so much from you over the years and be able to call you one of my closest friends. You are going to do INCREDIBLE things in AL and I cannot wait to watch you fly and get to be a part of it all. Thank you for making this day so special for not only myself, but all of us. by @kellerem28

Memorial Day 2021!
Super lucky to have gotten to know this amazing group of people this past year and a half! The true silver lining of this past year - so grateful to @katwildish and @arthurcoopchik for opening up their home and lives to all of us! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Best part of the day - taking home a box of phenomenal chocolates courtesy of Kat who knows me so well 😂😂😂
