best. homecoming. ever.
interning with @taylorthomasbrent in 2024 was incredible; he’s such an unstoppable force in this industry. now, getting to be a part of @julyfirstliterary with him and @sarajaldrich as an agent, is an absolute dream come true.

very very happy to welcome @beth.d.bates to @julyfirstliterary! Beth D. Bates writes across the fantasy and romance genres and owns a roaming whisky bar. Based in Colchester, Britain’s oldest city, she draws inspiration from its rich history, folklore and surrounding natural world. 🌞🕶️🔥 by @kelseyevanswrites

around this time last year I was in the middle of the english countryside with the extraordinary @youfoundmarinasbooks on her inaugural @re.turntothewild retreat.

we traipsed through lush trails to wild swim and spend mornings walking around the farm and saying hello to all the animals. we changed the way we thought about writing and how we relate to our own creative processes.

(also I learned what an owl sounds like when they hoot for real in nature and it was so cool?! I think I’m meant for something other than city life)

all of this to say: write more. say yes more. and spend as much time as you can outside to enjoy the best season of the year. happy halloween 👻🪾🔮

The Bonfire is back, and this time, we’re handing the microphone to JFL literary agent @kelseyevanswrites!

In her first guest post, Kelsey takes us behind the scenes of how agents develop their wishlists, why personal taste and experience go hand in hand, and what makes a story one they just HAVE to champion.
