This one is hard for me. I think it took me this long to post a reel about my boy because it would mean it’s real. That his time with me has come to an end. I still don’t believe it. We’d joke that he was the stubborn old dog that would live forever.

On March 21st, Nash let us know it was his time to join Memphis. Although it was known this time would come soon, it happened suddenly, and in the time span of 8 months we found ourselves having to make another big decision to lay to rest one of our dogs.

I think Nash’s greatest gift he gave us was the last 8 months. Memphis was sudden and unknown. It caught us off guard as he was otherwise young and healthy. I think Nash knew that. He knew his time was coming but like the stubborn old man he was, he held on for us. He helped us grieve Memphy without having to worry about him. That was Nash.

I’ll miss his bark, the way he’d breathe like he was blowing bubbles, his unique look, his long snout that always wanted scratched, the chiming of his tags on his collar when he would reposition at night. I’ll miss his snuggles. He was a better little spoon than Matt. I’ll miss his protection. There was a sense of comfort knowing that anyone who would walk through that door unwanted would be greeted by him first.

I got Nash before my senior year of college. He has been with me for every major life event for the last 14 years and was my best pal. Although Matt was best pals with Memphis, he grew so close to Nash in the last few months and it breaks my heart even more seeing him grieve.

I’m thankful for Owen’s innocent mind, but he knows. We didn’t say much about it but he came up to us recently and said, “Nashy died. I miss him.” Unprompted. They just know. He was a huge part of my adult life and I’ll miss him every day. taken in Gainesville, Florida by @kelsmcbooker

It’s been one week since Matt and I received some of the toughest news about our best boy. It’s been two days since we said our goodbyes and laid him to rest. This came as a complete shock and we are still processing the last week. We are grateful for the time we did get with him and how he quickly became Owen’s best friend. He will forever remain a part of us. I really believe Matt fell in love with me after he fell in love with Memphis. He was his best friend.
