5 countries in 2 and a half weeks. 🇬🇧🇮🇹🇻🇦🇫🇷🇲🇨

An exhausting, but life changing experience. Other than the heat, I wouldn't mind coming back one day. Still shook that the pasta didn't give me heartburn! 🤯

Shang-chi but áo dài version.

📷: @alena_nguyen__

I remember wanting blonde hair and blue eyes as a kid. I hated how my Asian features did not match the Western ones that I saw so often on screen. It took me awhile to accept my Asian features, but I always wished that there could have been more Asian representation as I was growing up. When Marvel's first Asian superhero, Shang-Chi was announced, I was beyond excited and watched this movie twice. I hope Asian kids today can feel proud of their heritage. With the success of this film, I hope more Asians (like Southeast Asians!) can breakthrough into the entertainment industry. Shang-chi has inspired me to train harder as a martial artist and this film gives me hope that maybe I can be successful as an Asian-American woman in entertainment one day. Thank you @simuliu , @destindaniel , and everyone involved for making Shang-Chi happen.

With the help of many people, I decided to put my own twist on Shang-Chi by creating an áo dài (Vietnamese traditional dress) version of his outfit. Combining my love for the movie and my Vietnamese heritage, this costume has helped me embrace my Asian American roots more confidently. The base áo dài is from the Asian Garden Mall and I made the chest, bottom trim, and arm patterns. The green sash is a reference to Shang-Chi's comic book outfit.

Special thanks to:
My mom for sewing on the patterns I made and the extra ribbon embellishments

My neighbor for altering the áo dài, sash and giving me advice.

@xleneeveex for helping me look for the áo dài base and giving me advice.

@alena_nguyen__ for taking these photos and helping me with the edits.
