POSTS STORIES REELS

A few years back, I made a film about a young talented street dancer (@eflexgh ) from labadi in Accra, Ghana 🇬🇭 who due to unforeseen circumstances had to confront his fears and deal with family objections in order to pursue his dancing dreams.

I shared this idea with my friend/producer Liebe Edem, he loved it and suggested this amazing actress @reginavanhelvert_ would be perfect for it and then found a way to bring her onboard amidst her busy schedule as a prime time television personality.

I had no intention of ever releasing this film but I got scolded by a friend about how selfish that decision would be and she made some other salient points that made me feel very stupid for ever considering those thoughts.

So Kindly check out Episode 1 of our film “DANCE FEVER” which is now steaming on YouTube. (Link in bio/stories)

A special thank you to all the crew and cast for being patient and understanding with me, I know I’m a handful but I’m grateful for everything y’all did for me and yourselves in this film so Thank you and see you soon on the next one 🙏🏾

Every frame is a decision. Every decision tells a story. 🎥

There’s more to cinematography than pointing a camera and pressing record.

It’s understanding light. Composition. Movement. Visual language. And knowing how to turn a director’s vision into images that tell a story.

If you’re serious about growing as a filmmaker, understanding these fundamentals matters.

I’ve spent 15 years behind the camera.
The hardest part was never the gear.
It was finding crew who’d seen how a real set works.
So I’m showing you.

Some say the cinematographer’s biggest job is lighting. Others say composition.

The real answer: communicating with the director.

At Cinematography Fundamentals, you won’t just hear about it. On Day 3 you’ll watch a live production on a sound stage and see how I work with the director and every department, from the gaffers and grips to art and camera crew.

What is the cinematographer’s biggest job on a production?

Most videographers never learn this because nobody shows them how a real set runs. In 3 days I’ll show you: blocking, lighting, working with the director, and balancing the technical and the artistic.

A throwback that reminded me why I do this. 🎥

Around 2013, I discovered Walmart Soundcheck and became obsessed with the idea of musicians performing live as part of a proper TV production.

So I went to my big brothers and advisors @donwaxi , @kofiversed and @ubeatzworld and pitched the idea.

We explored it, even went to Black Lace to look at the studio and figure out how we could make it happen.

Then I went home, did the numbers… and realised I couldn’t afford it. 😂

Fast forward.

@princedovlo calls me one evening:

“What are you doing?”

“I’m not doing anything. Just hanging out, looking at girls on the streets.” 😂

He asks me to come over for a shoot.

I get there and realise it’s @compozers & @oxladeofficial Live for @kjspio_ .

And immediately, it hit me:

The dream I had in 2013… I was now living it.

I was shooting the kind of live music production I had imagined all those years ago.

But that shoot gave me something more than just a video.

It made me realise that I needed to start a cinematography school.

There was so much we all still needed to learn myself included. And I realised the only way we get better is by learning from each other and creating spaces where we can grow together.

That thought eventually became GH Cinematography Academy.

For the last year-plus, me and some partners have been working on building a school focused on cinematography and the camera department.

This throwback just made me really happy because it reminded me:

Sometimes this job gives you the chance to live out the ideas you’ve carried in your head for years.

And that’s a beautiful thing.

Grateful I got to live this one. ❤️

Shoutout to Prince Dovlo and everyone behind the cameras.

GH Cinematography Academy — coming soon. 🎥
