talkin all that jazz 🎷

my favoritie music is jazz
(as described by Nina Simone as “black classical music”)

i believe Hip-Hop is an extension from the same blues tree with even deeper, expansive roots (see Q-tip’s explanation on ATCQ’s “Excursions”)

quite possibly the purest art form and greatest American export, Hip-Hop has also introduced me to other musical genres, that reach far beyond our nation’s borders

the quest of music discovery, first through searching for sample sources and then in hopes of discovering self, has led me on a journey across the vast diaspora

exposing me to vibrations and rhythms i couldn’t fathom without the vehicle of rap music serving as the catalyst

djing encouraged me to reconnect with the child-like fervor i first found flipping through CD booklets seeking a treasure map to explore unknown territories of sound

spontaneously mixing these soundscapes directly links me to this lineage and reinvigorated my love of the art

(clips pulled from IG Live sessions from past 5 years)
