Everybody Wants to Rule the World" was almost left off the album! Producer Chris Hughes had to convince Roland Orzabal to record it, despite calling the song "bland as hell." Hughes strategically pushed for its inclusion, aiming for American chart success.
The song's intro features layered DX7 synths, sampled choir, and electric guitar. Two different DX7 presets play the same sequence, creating its iconic sound.
The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks in June 1985, part of a five-week streak of British acts at number one. It also topped the charts in Canada and New Zealand. by @kenehimself
