One year with Spectrum News 1 North Carolina has reminded me that behind every headline is a human story, including my own❤️. Over the past year, I’ve covered courtroom verdicts, devastating storms, memorable moments in sports, and breakthroughs in science, all while carrying the weight of grief in my personal life. Reporting through the loss of my father gave me an even deeper appreciation for the resilience, vulnerability, and strength I witnessed in the people who trusted me to tell their stories. I’m incredibly grateful for this first year, the lessons it brought, and the opportunity to keep growing as a journalist. Covering a two-week, high-profile murder sentencing hearing was one of the most challenging and meaningful assignments of my career.From the moment proceedings began, it was clear this case had reached far beyond our local community. The courtroom carried the weight of years of grief, unanswered questions, and ultimately, accountability. Each day required focus, sensitivity, and a deep responsibility to report with accuracy and compassion.Sitting in that courtroom for weeks, listening to emotional testimony and victim impact statements, was not easy. There were moments that were incredibly heavy. But being entrusted to translate those complex, painful proceedings into clear, factual reporting for our viewers was an honor.Experiences like this remind me why I do this work. My new guardian angel🤍 On Oct. 3rd, the best dad in the world passed away and I’m still in shock. The epitome of a girl dad; his unconditional love, support and humor will never be forgotten. He fought a really good fight for years but these last few months were extra hard on him. Although we can’t wrap our heads around my dad’s death, we are still so grateful to God for the time we had with him. We are truly blessed. Our small family may have shrunk in size but our love will only continue to grow. Thank you to everyone who has prayed for our family this year. There are no words to fully express our gratitude.
