What if these places weren’t always here for our kids?

The Roadless Rule helps protect millions of acres of National Forests from new roads and development.

Why does that matter?

🌲 Wildlife needs wild places.

💧 Forests protect the water we drink and the rivers we play in.

🏔️ Roadless landscapes keep ecosystems connected and wild.

🚵‍♀️ They give our kids places to explore, take risks, get dirty, and grow.

❤️ And they create the kind of memories that last a lifetime.

Because these places are more than forests on a map.

They are where our kids learn to love the outdoors.

Right now, the Roadless Rule is being considered for repeal.

This trip didn’t go as planned, but that’s adventure for you! We planned on doing a multi-day trip down the Klamath River, but the river had become too warm (and farms upstream are now able to spray toxic chemicals) and had tested positive for toxic blue green algae. We didn’t find this out until we drove all the way up there and saw signs posted. We spent a couple hours calling around and everyone we talked to said “yeah, don’t go in the water here.” Pretty sad.

It was a bummer, but we decided to backtrack to the Trinity River and run a different and harder section than we have done before with the kids. It was a little scary switching things up because I hadn’t done any research on this river, but luckily we were traveling with a professional river guide and swift water rescue instructor.

This trip ended up being one of our most memorable family trips, despite it being in triple digits everyday (and if you know me, I get real grumpy in the heat if I’m not in the water). We had the best time and Raglan says this is his favorite trip ever and his best birthday ever.

Jeff and I kept looking at each other and saying, “can you believe this is our life and we get to do this with our kids?”

June and Raglan got to go down their first class III+ stretch of river with their river friends and we are so lucky to be friends with some of the best and most skilled river runners around.
