College may not be for everyone; however, for me, it was never optional. I’ve held onto this dream for so long that this moment feels surreal, and I find myself at a loss for words. Who would have thought that a young girl from Memphis would make THE HILL her home to become a better young woman? To say this milestone has been filled with adversity would be an understatement. I began this journey at the onset of a global pandemic, and by the grace of GOD, I will finally be walking across the stage to receive the graduation I have always dreamed of. I am filled with happiness and gratitude as I close this chapter of my life, anxiously anticipating what lies ahead. We start here and go anywhere, right? The memories I've created over these past five school years have been nothing short of extraordinary, and the friends I've met along the way who have become family will forever hold a special place in my heart. Oh Eta Kappa Tau 🛶 The BEST Social Greek on Campus. The Real Get Money Team. In my earlier college years, I was told I wouldn’t be able to join HKT as a Biology major, but look at how time has changed. “There is no STEM without science.” Our short time together has been so well lived. Thank you for embracing and accepting me. To think like a queen, one must embrace the possibility of failure. A queen is not afraid to fail; rather, she recognizes that failure is simply another stepping stone on the path to greatness. 👸🏽 Oh, how I could write a book about this journey! Before I even set foot on any university campus, I aspired to serve on Royal Court. Being crowned Miss Junior is so much more than a title; it is a commitment to carry on the legacy of those who have come before us and to show that "Service is Sovereignty." Serving as a queen at an HBCU challenges you to embody a depth of character like no other and to find comfort in discomfort. My time representing my university allowed me to meet so many amazing individuals and form lifelong connections with student leaders from countless HBCUs, and for that, I am forever grateful. The love I have for my sister queens and brother kings is truly unmatched. To all of my HBCU royals, always remain true to yourselves, and remember to stand for something or fall for anything. To my Escort, Anthony we chose each other from the very beginning. Thank you for consistently showing up for me, for speaking on my behalf in my absence, and for showing me what it truly means to be treated like a queen. The bond we’ve created is one of a kind, and I thank Royal Court for allowing that to happen. @its.ap28 It would be remiss of me not to acknowledge Ms. Diann Greer, a true queen in every sense. To have known Ms. Greer is to love her. Losing another mentor just two years into my academic career, especially during the weekend of our 81st Magic City Classic, was a heartbreaking experience. The Student Activities Department will always keep your legacy alive.
