Had a blast participating in the STP for the first time ever this weekend. It was a grueling 152 miles on the first day which I was worried about being able to complete, but with thousands of people working through the same challenges alongside me, I had the determination to keep pushing.
The weekend was made even better that I was joined by friends and supported by Lucy. by @kennethpyne

Feeling grateful and exhausted from climbing Mt. Rainier (Emmons route)this weekend. My blood sugars were a mess, it was strenuous as hell and we were awake for over 30 hours, a melted snow bridge made us have to set up a belay to get across a crevasse, causing a long down climb to be even lengthier. The heavy winds destroyed nearly all of our team’s tents and sent mine right into a crevasse, but everyone on the team summited and got home safely.

I completed the Glacier Climbing Course through the OSAT (One Step At a Time) group which is a recovery-based sober group. I heard about this last spring and was intrigued but didn’t think much of it until sign ups came around in November last year. It’s been a huge focus for me this year and I’m so glad I stuck it out! I had no idea that sobriety would bring me here. taken in Emmons Glacier by @kennethpyne

Attempted Mt. Defiance yesterday and turned around about half a mile before Mason Lake. It being so sunny yesterday made the heavy snow start to get slushy and with all the exposed hillsides and snow-covered boulder fields, I was post holing and thought that I might slip if it continued to warm up, plus no sight of trail, no hiking partners, no one else on the trail. So I bailed but I got some nice views. Some of these moderate hiking trails in Washington can turn to pseudo-mountaineering when there’s so much snow. taken in Mount Defiance by @kennethpyne
