Making it to the end of this reel will be hard for everyone’s attention span these days. Almost as hard as hand digging most of these out of a hillside then planting each one. Yes I know the music cuts out on the reel. It’s for dramatic effect. 😂 . I’m calling it 9:35:00 even if the clock said 9:40, seeing as how I rode a half mile past T2 🤷‍♂️. I guess I thought 112 miles was too short. 😂 Cost me about 5-6 mins. With racing these distances sometimes you do dumb stuff so officially 9:40 it is. Either way I’m so stoked on my finish time. Not just breaking 10 hours, but smashing it! Was going for a Kona slot but the level of racing was unreal. Last year my time would have put me on the podium in 4th place and absolutely would have landed a slot to the world champs. This year that was only good for enough for 28th. Have to just go faster I suppose. It’s hard to select photos because Cozumel is such a beautiful place to race so I’m posting them all. Lol. Thank you to my awesome wife for letting me put in the hours training and for being my #1 fan. Also my bestest friends Nick and Angie for coming to support. And my training partner Stephen for doing the long rides and runs with me in preparation. Congrats to him for punching his ticket to worlds! taken in Cozumel, Mexico by @kenny.rickerd

We rented a camper van in Christchurch and drove all over the South Island for a week. NZ is probably the most naturally beautiful country I’ve ever seen! Taupo 70.3 World Championships was a banger! Perfect weather, beautiful course, tough competition. I had three personal goals going in to my first world championship race. Be in the top 50% of the age group, ride a personal best average power on the bike and run a sub 7 min mile for the half marathon. Went 2 for 3. Inside top 40%, rode best power for 70.3 race. Just missed the run with a 7:05/mile average. A nice hamstring cramp at mile 9 had me down for about 60 seconds or so and put me off pace. However, I couldn’t be happier with the outcome and my race execution. The hard work pays off. Taupo is such an amazing place for a race. Staying fly in that custom @the.plant.daddies and @sportsandmsk_medicine kit all day.
