Anyone who’s talked to me in the past month is probably sick of hearing about this guitar, but I paid it off today so I figured, what the hell, why not make a whole-ass new guitar day post. It deserves one.

My ol pal @bill_poss found this 1975 Guild D50 on Facebook marketplace awhile back for a great price and in need of a bridge reset. After my good buddy Mike Womack and I cleaned up some lacquer overspray from burst refinish that caused the glue seam to separate, reset and glued the bridge, and strung it up, I realized there was something pretty damn special about it and that there was no way I could let it get away. Bill and I agreed on a timeline that gave me enough time to hustle up some extra scratch, and we finally cleared that part up this evening.

For all you other gear nerds out there, swipe for some of the noodle clips I’ve been throwin up on my stories (and one from @kaseyleerogersmusic), some progress pics of the repair work we did, and one I really like of all the new pick wear I put on it pickin and causing a ruckus with all my new Hoosier pals over at @firstcitymusicfest last weekend.

It felt like biggest tool I was missing in my arsenal of instruments was a good dread, so finding a player grade (and priced) vintage box that’s already had all the major repairs done was a no-brainer to fill the gap. Pretty crazy to think I’ll be around for its centennial. Can’t wait to play the dogshit out of it til then. If ya see me out and about, there’s a good chance it’ll be with me and I’ll gladly take any chance I can get to hear it from the other side. Bring on all the recommendations for your favorite flatpicks, strings, magic beans and rattlesnake tails to put in the soundhole for luck, hardcases, and all the other snake oil voodoo bullshit that us nerds all love to talk about to put off actually playing. by @kenny_strangs

Here’s one for all the fellow steel nerds. My pal @jplankmusic has a signature instrument, sort of electric dobro, called the Plank. My other pal Mike over at @mikesguitarnamp in Effingham had the wild idea to convert an old archtop into a similar concept, and now I get the fun of beta testing the new design!
