I'm sitting here in New Orleans with tears in my eyes. I just finished listening to Once Upon A Rhyme and Any Given Day. They both speak so beautifully to exactly why I chose to take this journey from Nashville to New Orleans- to honor the great writers and musicians of today and those whose words and music have meant so much to me over the many years of my life, while also realizing that life is short, and getting shorter. Your songs speak to me, as they do to thousands more.

Thank you for your tremendous gift of sharing these with me! I can't begin to adequately express how touched I am by your kindness!

Once Upon A Rhyme pulls me back to my early years in Nashville, being in awe of the masterful wordsmiths like Kristofferson, and my thrill at getting to meet him after I had signed a song at Buckhorn, and having Marijohn Wilkin come into the room while I was doing a rough demo of some lyric changes. I remember so many times at Douglas Corner, 3rd and Lindsley, The Bluebird, at parties and workshops, just being enthralled by the creativity and talent of music row. I remember listening to you at The Bluebird more than once and thinking what a fine writer you were. Hearing now your own homage to this time and place touches my soul.

Thank you @nashvillelifestyles https://nashvillelifestyles.com/people/community-pics/alive-hospice-celebrates-community-impact-at-inaugural-alive/ Alive Hospice welcomed community leaders, supporters, donors, and longtime partners to its inaugural Alive and Legacy Breakfast on September 23, celebrating the relationships that have helped sustain the nonprofit's mission for five decades.

A highlight of the morning was the presentation of the first-ever Legacy Legend Award to the Bluebird Café, recognizing more than 30 years of unwavering support for Alive. Since 1994, the iconic Nashville music venue has donated proceeds from its January shows to the organization, helping fund hospice care, palliative care, and grief support services for patients and families throughout Middle Tennessee.

The award was accepted by Bluebird Café founder Amy Kurland and Erika Nichols, who manages the venue on behalf of the Nashville Songwriters Association. Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member Kent Blazy presented the honor, sharing a personal reflection on the impact of Alive's care during his wife's battle with cancer. Blazy also performed "If Tomorrow Never Comes," the song he co-wrote with Garth Brooks, in a moving tribute to Alive's mission. by @kentblazy

‘The Songwriters’ Returns Sept. 5 For Fourth Season With Kent Blazy, Rafe Van Hoy, More!!

The Songwriters, a weekly TV series celebrating the artistry, stories and lasting impact of some of Nashville’s most influential songwriters, returns for its fourth season beginning in early September.

Distributed to an estimated 85% of U.S. households through PBS affiliate stations and hosted by long-time journalist Ken Paulson, The Songwriters goes behind the scenes with members of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame exploring the lives, careers and creative journeys of writers whose songs have become part of the fabric of American music.

Season Four features Sharon Vaughn (“My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys”), Mike Reid (“I Can’t Make You Love Me”), Kent Blazy (“If Tomorrow Never Comes”), John Scott Sherrill (“Nothing But the Wheel”), Tom Shapiro (“Never Give Up on a Good Thing”), Rafe Van Hoy (“What’s Forever For”), Steve Bogard (“Carrying Your Love With Me”) and Gary Burr (“Queen of Hearts”). The season also shines a spotlight on two legendary songwriters—two episodes celebrate the remarkable body of work of Jimmy Webb, while two additional episodes explore the enduring legacy of John Prine.

The Songwriters is produced at the Scott Borchetta College of Media and Entertainment at Middle Tennessee State University, where Paulson is dean emeritus. All in-studio production is done by students in the college’s Media Arts department and direction is provided by department Chair Robert Gordon.
