"Freshmen never get accepted." That's what my professor warned me when I applied for the Student Poster Showcase. Yet, I pushed past the doubt. The reward? The honor of being the ONLY first year student and the ONLY Anthropology major presenting. For my topic, I chose the topic: Re-discovering the Lost Kingdom of Punt; how modern technology is archaeology. Punt was a very important trading partner for Egypt many many centuries ago. They were known for their enormous wealth and generosity. Not only that, Punt has the oldest recorded successful expedition of transferring foreign flora to another country. A feat deemed impossible for the world during BCE. Punt went from being a notorious trading partner and now? A myth. A legend. We are still picking up crumbs to find it's location. Is LiDar our answer? LiDar has two types. Airborne and Terrestrial. Airborne LiDar is mounted on an airplane/Drone and laser pulses are shot down. Terrestrial LiDar is often set up on a tripod. Airborne LiDar helps us identify where larger structures or artifacts may be. Terrestrial LiDar helps find smaller artifacts and render high resolution 3D images. LiDar solves a lot of problems archeologists may face. Archeologists used to play a guessing game. Pick a spot, dig, and hope to find something. Now? We can pinpoint where things are. Before, archeologists would spend decades or their entire career, looking for objects, for places. Now? We can find it much easier, in a span of months. Before, environments and ecosystems were often damaged in the search for past artifacts. Now? We can dig safely while minimizing damage. Plus, LiDar can detect trade routes, ports, etc. Is LiDar what we needed to finish the crossing line? And find this kingdom of wealth, hidden from human eye? #historylovers #history #travel by @kenwegoyett
Germany 🇩🇪 3/3 : I chose this to be an individual post because it carries a strong message. Hate against each other has become so normalized. I cannot fathom it. Maybe I'm just a cheesy hippie, but I believe in love and good energy :) We all need to treat each other better. Life is hard and we're all just trying to make it. Let's not make things harder for each other :)) #fypシ #fyp #travelling #travel #travelgram #travelblogger #love #peace #goodvibes #equality #dontbeanasshole by @kenwegoyett
Belgium 🇧🇪 1/1: BELGIUM! didn't get to stay here as long as I hoped I would. But I had a chocolate Belgium waffle with banana. I think I went to heaven, it was the best thing I've ever eaten. The Christmas spirit was thick in the air with the adorable crafts, the giant Christmas tree, and the beautiful glowing lights. #travelling #travel #travelgram #travelblogger #fypシ #fyp by @kenwegoyett
Germany 🇩🇪 2/3: Christmas markets in Germany! I got this cutest paper lantern and the nuts (very last photo) were delicious. Everything was so beautiful and cozy! #travelling #travel #travelgram #travelblogger #fypシ #fyp by @kenwegoyett
Germany 🇩🇪 1/3: The Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom) is one of Germany’s most iconic landmarks. Construction began in 1248 but wasn’t completed until 1880. That's over 600 years later! Its twin spires soar to 157 meters, making it one of the tallest cathedrals in the world. Built to house the relics of the Three Wise Men, the cathedral became a pilgrimage site and symbol of Christian faith. It miraculously survived World War II bombings, standing defiantly amidst the ruins of Cologne. by @kenwegoyett
Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 4/4: The Wallace Monument. celebrates Sir William Wallace, a legendary Scottish hero who fought for independence. I climbed 246 steps (a spiral staircase) to see exhibitions about Wallace’s life and Scotland’s fight for freedom. It was worth it! The star attraction is Wallace's massive two-handed sword, measuring 5'4 (one inch shorter than I) Legend says he wielded it during the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297. Fun fact: this Scottish hero inspired a movie I'm sure many of you have seen and potentially love. The movie BRAVEHEART #travel #travelgram #travelblogger #travelling #fypシ #fyp by @kenwegoyett
Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 3/4: I got to go to Loch Ness beach today! I didn't see Nessie unfortunately. But when I went to this adorable store! It had a museum walk through dedicated to The Loch Ness monster! I talked to the employee and found out he has a paranormal investigation channel! (I'll put the channel name in the comments) Fun fact: The close-together-buildings you see in the third picture is a street that inspired JK Rowling to come up Diagon Alley! #travel #travelgram #travelblogger #fypシ #fyp by @kenwegoyett
Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 2/4: Its origins trace back to at least the Iron Age, but its peak was in the 12th century when King David I established a royal residence there. Over centuries, it morphed from a fortress to a royal palace, a military garrison, and even a prison! Lots of events have happened here like sieges during the Wars of Scottish Independence, cannon fire from the infamous Mons Meg (a medieval supergun), and a ghostly reputation for being one of the most haunted spots in Scotland. Fun fact: it houses the royal jewels!!!! 💎👑💍 #travel #travelblogger #travelgram #fyp #fypシ by @kenwegoyett
