@kenzievans shares how the impact of the trauma from losing her sister affected her ability to play soccer. Kenzie was playing soccer on a competitive team at a high level when her sister passed.

The trauma literally shocked her nervous system.

Trauma impacts us in very real ways, just like a more physical wound like a broken leg.

We don't always "see" how trauma impacts us, but the effects are real.

Many of our ongoing emotional, physical, mental challenges in life have their roots in unhealed trauma.

Kenzie found healing & resilience through soccer which helped her after the trauma of her younger sister's tragic passing.

Kenzie dedicated herself to life life to her fullest and spend her time doing what she loved most as a way to honor her sister's legacy.

I’ve been thinking about grief & loss a lot lately. There’s been too many losses of loved ones in the past months & yesterday being Elle’s 18th (would be birthday) really hit me hard about the grief journey ive been on. Don’t know why i feel the need to write it down, but here we go. the grief isn’t the same as it was 14 years ago. Where tears & confusion on “how to feel or act” once was, now is replaced by thoughts of “what could/would have been.” I remember distinctly asking myself how are people just going to work again? Going to school again? I couldn’t grasp that life moves on, even though your world and reality is crumbling. The realization that life doesn’t stop to let you catch your breathe. To sit & pause to figure things out. That was brutal for me. Now having been pushed through the continuum of life, I’ve realized grief has given me a profound gift. A gift of empathy & perspective of life that i wouldn’t have had. I’ve lived & seen the reality that we are not in charge. & trust in God for me is a foundational piece to my everyday progress. I now live with the whole hearted belief to cherish and live life to its fullest potential.
I’ve seen the profound effect that the loss of a 4 year old girl, who seemingly hasn’t made a big impact on the world, can change the trajectory of other lives & perspectives, solidifying that you don’t ever quite understand how big your ripple effect is on this earth. Thats something i wish i would reiterate more to those i have around me before it’s too late. People like Jacob.
The last truth ive found about grief is that it’s never the same. To me, it’s like a fingerprint. May look similar person to person, but when looking closely, it’s distinct & unique to everyone who goes through it.
Thank you for the gift you were in life & the gifts you have taught from your passing.
