Congratulations to DJ Kealy, Co. Laois, winner of the @kepak_group Dairy Farmer Finisher Award at the ICBF Beef Awards 2026.

DJ Kealy was recognised for the consistent performance achieved across both the dairy and dairy-beef elements of his farming system.

Operating a spring-calving dairy enterprise, DJ has developed a highly efficient system built on strong dairy genetics, excellent fertility and carefully selected beef sires. By combining milk and beef performance within the same system, he continues to produce high-value dairy-beef calves with excellent commercial potential.

His impressive Commercial Beef Value (CBV) results demonstrate how genetics can deliver heavier carcasses, stronger finishing performance and increased profitability, highlighting the value of breeding with both dairy and beef traits in mind.

A valuable discussion at the Kepak Athleague site, where members of our Irish #YoungFarmerForum met with @mariawalsheu MEP to discuss CAP, succession, access to land, women in agriculture and the challenges facing the next generation of farmers.

Maria shared insights from a European perspective and encouraged young farmers to continue engaging directly with policymakers to help shape the future of agricultural policy.

Thanks to Maria for taking the time to meet with the group, listen to their perspectives and engage in an open discussion on the issues shaping the future of Irish agriculture.

💧 Protecting water quality starts on the farm.

Last week, we co hosted a #BetterFarmingForWater event with Teagasc at Newgrange Farm, Slane, focused on practical actions that can improve water quality while supporting productive, profitable farm businesses.

Farmers, advisors, researchers and industry stakeholders came together to share knowledge, discuss progress across the Boyne catchment and highlight the importance of collaboration in delivering real results.

A key highlight was the launch of Teagasc’s “From the Fields to the Boyne” video campaign, showcasing the connection farmers have with the land and the legacy they leave for future generations.

Thanks to everyone who attended, and to our programme partners @teagasc , @lakeland_dairies and @tirlanfarmlife for their support.

From the Fields to the Boyne

Five farmers. Five unique stories. One shared connection to the River Boyne.

Over the next five weeks, we’ll hear directly from farmers across the Boyne catchment about their relationship with the land and water, and the work they’re doing to help protect the river.

A new farmer. A new story. Every week.

Going live every Tuesday at 8pm, starting tonight with Godfrey Potterton from Co Kildare.

Join us as we go beyond the actions and meet the people behind them, exploring what the River Boyne means to those who live and farm alongside it.
