Erebus, from Scott Base. I've got 3-ish weeks left before I go back to my homeland, and as relieving as that is, I also find myself upset at the ending. Despite this season not being a particularly good one, I'm going to miss my friends. Saying goodbye is never easy for me. And when parting from people I have come to love, it makes it that much harder.
Still, in order to say hello and meet again, we have to say goodbye. In order to feel the joy of greeting, we must endure the hurt of separation. Such is the way of the lifestyle. by @kerandurrant

In a team effort, we worked our way around the Plant this morning, and cleared the doors of snow from yesterday's storm. The snow was about 2/3's of the way up the doors, and had forced the first door open with its weight. It took four of us a little over an hour to clear this one platform. #whoneedsthegym #justaddsnow #herbieweather #icelife by @kerandurrant

Some of the season's highlights. Even an anti-social, cynical, and grumpy winter-over like me can still be awed by the majesty of this place. taken in Ross Island, Antarctica. by @kerandurrant

As the season winds down, I find myself reflecting on the season that was. It's been a bit of a rough one, on various levels, but also one of learning and growth. I have had tremendous support, and provided the same to others. I have faced myself and some of my deepest shames, and come away with a greater understanding, acceptance and love of myself. I have forged new friendships, and deepened and strengthened others. As transformative and overwhelming as last year was, this year was about continuing what got started back then. Digging deeper, removing the rot, then solidifying the foundation and starting to build anew.
I wasn't particularly eager to leave last year, even though I was severely burnt out. But I'm looking forward to what comes next this time around. And maybe I'll come back with a better outlook than what I started with this season.
May we all find peace and prosperity where we can in these mad times 🙏. by @kerandurrant

It's a shame that people being shot ruined a street party? A fucking SHAME?!? Are you so fucking desensitized to gun violence that you don't care that people were shot??? Actual people, with lives and loves and dreams. But no, my street party was ruined. It may as well have rained, for all it matters.
For fucks sake, America, what the fuck is wrong with you? The real shame is in the wilfull ignorance and complacency. by @kerandurrant

The new @denalinps sled dog litter are not only super cute and super CHONKY, (seriously, look at how big Mammoth is 😳) they are also emotional support puppers for some of us down here in Antarctica 😂. Give them a follow and show them some love and support. taken in McMurdo Station, Antarctica by @kerandurrant

The darkness deepens, and soon, there will no longer be sunlight on the horizon.

I read once that one meaning of my name is darkness, or 'the dark one.' And maybe that's why I feel so comfortable with it. Which seems at odds with my ruling planet, the sun, if you believe in that sort of thing. (For the record, I don't.)
Not that I'm anti-sunlight, I'm not a Goth. I just enjoy the change that the darkness brings. Revel in the difference, and look forward to when we can see the Royals on the other side of the sound again.
This place is utterly unique, as many places are. And my love of it has only grown deeper over my time here. I don't see the ice and the cold as hostile. They are not out to get me. Indeed, they are as necessary for our lives on this planet as air. Without them, things would not be the same, as we will be seeing over the coming decades. by @kerandurrant
