These photos are actually a smidge out of order. The first five photos actually should have gone at the beginning of the first post. Oh well! Most of these were taken on my way back to the bus, out of the red light district (including the marauding Grey Heron in and out of the chicken shop)

Yoooooooooooo peeps, here we goooooooooooo! Looooooooong caption ahead!

This part one series of photos was taken during my solo jaunt through Amsterdam's red light district, April 21, 2024. We boarded the ship this day after our three extra days in Amsterdam pre-main trip, after we returned from the morning in Haarlem. Mom went on the city walking tour with folks who had just arrived.

Me? I was on a mission. Find the Oudemanhuispoort. Mom and I stumbled into the Oudemanhuispoort completely by accident on our trip in 2022. We didn't really know where we were or what it was called then. I only found out the space had a name through reading Rick Steves' guide to Amsterdam and the Netherlands before the 2024 trip

But obviously the place made a lingering impression (it is a corridor for booksellers and other vendors of stuff). So I wandered and wandered, not really knowing exactly where I was, and fervently hoping I'd be able to find my way back. I stopped in tree shade to take a breather (for April in the western Netherlands, that afternoon was sunny and quite warm). I looked up and saw the street name on the building across the canal. And I recognized it...'hey this is one of the streets that the Oudemanhuispoort opens onto!' I paused for a moment, gathering my navigstionslly challenged brain 'a left will take me back toward the center of the district. I need to go right'. And off I went.

And then I noticed that the buildings in front of me were spread out...ah ha this must be the University of Amsterdam! And I turned to my left...looked across the canal...and burst into happy tears. There across the canal was the entrance to the Oudemanhuispoort ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ the photos at the end of this posting are of the 'huispoort by @kerithegeek

May 5, 2026. The return to my cherished friend.

My connection to Michaux SF is spritual. Has been ever since my dad introduced me to a small portion of it when I was a child.

May 5th, I went to my two favorite Thoughtful Spots (with gratitude to Mr. Milne). This is my TS at the bottom of Big Pond Road, at a roadside pulloff and a waterfall on the creek.

All images shot by me on a Pentax K70 in manual aperture/shutter speed mode. Most shot at 300mm

This is a shutter speed/aperture practice set. Large wide open aperture will blur the water (any aperture from about f20 to f32 (I am pretty sure I photographed all the blurs at f32 for maximum blur). Smaller apertures will freeze motion (I can check the metadata but I think I shot them all at f6.3, the smallest aperture my lens can give me)

And fucking A, I NEEDED my therapy! Looking through a camera viewfinder has always been a beautiful act of mindfulness for me. AND I HAD BEEN AWAY FROM IT FOR EIGHT MONTHS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MONTH. Goddamn I need to stop doing that to myself. Rlly. by @kerithegeek

Before today, I last used my K-70 TEN FUCKING MONTHS AGO (May of last year ffs!!!). Too damned long. Getting reacquainted with the FEEL of seeing through the viewfinder and the meditation that is for me felt so good.

There will be a part two since I took more than 20 photos. taken in Gifford Pinchot State Park by @kerithegeek

I have been a diehard Flyers fan for *coughchoke* 40 years *whimper* Only now can I say I've been to the arena to see them play in person. October 16th... the loss against the Jets (they had a hangover from opening night against the Ratgang. That is the hill I will die on; the story I'm sticking to! And yup. I am going again last weekend home game of the season....I will be able to say I was there at season's start and I'll be there at season's end😁)

Most years, I've admittedly watched the Flyers from a somewhat disinterested distance (the rebuild years have been painful but us Flyers fans are loyal to a fault). Until this year. Happy to say I am no longer at a disinterested distance...Penn State's epic regular season comeback and making the Frozen Four for the first time ever last season and then watching the Flyers draft stoked me into the hockey stratosphere. 💙🤍🧡🖤

Vlad (Flyers crush 1A lol) ...I am saving up to get a Flyers black alternate jersey with his name and number on it (the ultimate devotion, imo 😁). He has been absolutely phenomenal....yes I know he isn't ALWAYS going to play so well but his .932 save percentage and 1.81 GAA has me utterly swooning. Enough to make a jersey investment. Thank you, Calgary. by @kerithegeek
