AZAT QIRIM is a merch collection rooted in the history, culture, and identity of Crimea. Each design carries a story of resilience — from ancient symbols to the experience of loss, return, and renewal. These images connect past and present, turning cultural memory into a living visual language. More than clothing, it is a statement of identity, dignity, and an unbreakable bond between a people and their land. AZAT QIRIM — “Free Crimea.”

«Free Saha Mangubi» -art of dear @leoefet that was at my performance ‘Silent Scream’ at a rally “Crimea behind the bars” in support of the Crimean hostages of russia organised by @kermen.de in Berlin. Only by uniting can we liberate our land and our people. Thank you so much for the video dearest @frankpeterwilde Thank you so much for the photos - @jemel_now and @kseniayanko.photography ——- On 1 September, Crimean detainees Anna Sotsenko, Evelina Melnichuk and Saha Mangubi went on hunger strike. They demanded a medical examination and the return of items seized by detention centre staff from their parcels. All three were held in the same cell. In particular, Melnichuk reported that she was being denied a cardiogram and that her valerian and vitamins were not being returned to her. Melnichuk and Mangubi subsequently ended their hunger strike without achieving their demands. Only Sotsenko is continuing her hunger strike. Anna Sotsenko, aged 71, who suffers from a number of chronic illnesses, has been refusing food for 41 days at the Akmesdzhit remand centre (Simferopol). Saha Mangubi, a Karaite woman, went missing in occupied Crimea in November 2024. Her family claimed that she had been abducted by unknown individuals wearing camouflage uniforms. The occupying police refused to open a case regarding the abduction and advised them to contact the FSB, which denied any involvement in her disappearance. In February 2026, it emerged that a case had been opened against Mangubi under the ‘high treason’ charge. Every day in a Russian prison could be their last! Please fight for them and continue to be their voices. _____ Source – Qırım Media by @kermen.de
Proud that KERMEN e.V. and the Assembly of Crimean Organisations (ACO) partnered with the Ukrainian Film Festival Berlin 2026. The festival opened with a musical performance by Crimean Tatar singer Aziza Eskender, who brought Crimean folk songs and the history and culture of her people to the stage. We also presented Crimea. Isolation, a documentary by @cemaatmedia , offering audiences insight into life under occupation. The screening was followed by a discussion and a letter-writing initiative organised by @liberecophr in solidarity with Crimean political prisoners. It was a meaningful reminder of the importance of keeping Crimea in the international spotlight and ensuring that its people, culture, and stories continue to be heard. by @kermen.de
At Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate, @eskender_ant_etkenmen performed Crimea Behind Bars, drawing attention to Crimean political prisoners. We read their letters aloud to make their voices heard. The voices of political prisoners must be heard. by @kermen.de
“One tooth a year, haha. And I still have another eight years ahead of me — at this rate, that could mean eight more teeth!” In a letter to his family, Crimean political prisoner Aziz Akhtemov. In September 2022, a Russian-controlled court in occupied Crimea sentenced Akhtemov to 13 years in prison. On 15 October, during the Crimea Behind Bars performance near Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate, Nina Masol, Second Secretary of the @ukrainische_botschaft , read his letter aloud. Crimea’s political prisoners must not be forgotten. They deserve dignity and access to adequate medical care. by @kermen.de
As part of the @uff_berlin , we presented “Crimea: Isolation”, a documentary by @cemaatmedia exploring the realities of life under occupation and the persecution faced by people in Crimea. The screening was accompanied by a performance by @eskender_ant_etkenmen , a letter-writing initiative in support of political prisoners, and an exhibition by @liberecophr highlighting the stories of those deprived of their freedom. We extend our sincere gratitude to our partners, speakers, guests, and everyone who contributed to making this event possible. Your engagement and support help keep the stories of political prisoners visible and their experiences part of the wider public conversation. by @kermen.de
Yesterday, at the screening of Crimea. Isolation as part of the @uff_berlin , @irieinhorn spoke about how we can support Ukrainian civilian prisoners and stand with their families. Write letters. Join demonstrations. Raise awareness and keep speaking about those who are still held captive. To learn more about how to write letters to prisoners, visit the Libereco website. Every action matters. No one should be forgotten. by @kermen.de

Azat Qırım! A powerful performance by Aziza Eskender at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, raising her voice for a free Crimea and those who continue to fight for its freedom. by @kermen.de
On 15 October, at Pariser Platz in Berlin, we came together to draw attention to the political prisoners of occupied Crimea and ensure that their stories are not forgotten. At the heart of the event were letters written by political prisoners. Through these personal messages, their voices reached the public beyond the walls of their confinement. Nina Masol, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Ukraine in Germany, read a letter by Aziz Akhtemov. Elvis Çolpuh, President of the Assembly of Crimean Organisations in Europe (ACO), read a letter by Appaz Kurtamet. Frank Wilde, mentor to political prisoner Bohdan Ziza, read a letter by the imprisoned artist. Crimean Tatar artist and performer Aziza Eskender presented a performance dedicated to the political prisoners of Crimea, drawing public attention to their situation and the ongoing repression under Russian occupation. Behind every political prisoner is a person. A family waiting for their return. A life interrupted. A voice that must not be forgotten. Their imprisonment must not mean their silence. We will continue to share their stories and draw attention to those imprisoned for their civic positions, peaceful activities and expression of dissent. Crimea must not be forgotten. Neither must those behind its bars. Foto: @kseniayanko.photography by @kermen.de
