La Catrina’s of San Miguel. She is an iconic figure of Dia de Los Muertos which started from an etching by José Posada around 1910 and later popularized by Diego Rivera who later named her La Calavera Catrina (“The Dapper Skull”).
How lucky were we to have @celestialphotos there to capture everyone’s version so beautifully. 📸🙌🏼
Each girl brought their own look without even knowing what the other was doing. I had fun making my own crown— and the jeweled headpiece was a chunky necklace I had for years. Dinner and dancing at @therestaurantsma 💃 the best food, DJ and drop dead 💀 gorgeous friends. 💕🎶 by @kerricurtis

The ofrendas of San Miguel de Allende during Dia de Los Muertos. ✨ The pure love, dedication, artistry, joy and symbolism brought tears to my eyes (several times). Such an amazing gift to be able to witness the community and their dedication and spirit in honoring their past loved ones.

What started as a cultural unit on Dia de los Muertos as an art teacher at Ortega Elementary (in the late 90’s!) grew into an annual school- wide and community installation for almost 10 years. It was so moving and special to me to work on this with the students, parents and community of East Austin and I have continued to set up my own home ofrenda for 25 or so years now.
So I can’t put into words what a gift it was to be able to experience this culture. I am so grateful for the lessons, perspective, humanity, reverence and community surrounding Dia de Los Muertos. ✨💕 thank you @judypie1 for this experience. 🙏 by @kerricurtis

The beauty of San Miguel de Allende for Dia de Los Muertos. A dream of mine to go since college. It will remain one on my most meaningful, poignant and favorite experiences of my life. This bedroom makeover stars our favorite women in @maison.c.studio ‘s beautiful, moody and playful Coven wallpaper in Mahogany. We created a half wall and trim detail by cutting and rounding a piece of wood trim and painting black down to the base trim with @benjaminmoore’s Black Tar. The hand painted details on this wallpaper is so beautiful (down to the socks and blindfolds) and this room has the best energy and blend of mischief and whimsy. Obsessed. After almost 15 years I had to say goodbye last week to my soul kitty Fleetwood. What a void he has left — whatever room I was in, he was there. He made sure I knew when I needed to go to bed and then jumped up and laid next to my head staring at the wall as if he were protecting me. I am sure he was. He was the kindest creature I have ever met with a hilarious personality. He loooved to be brushed. He took in the other rescue babies and showed them the ropes even though they annoyed him. He was the OG. It’s feels so empty without his presence, he was such a fixture and comfort—if he was near me he had to have a paw on me. 🐾
He died the same day Brian Wilson did so I found it fitting to listen to the entire Pet Sounds album. I am so grateful for all of the love and joy Fleeters brought and gave me all these years. 🌈 💗 He’s hanging with his sisters Dee Dee and Birdie now and they were obsessed with him as we all were. by @kerricurtis

Excited to share the before and after reveal of the beautiful Fresh Aesthetics Medspa in Austin! The concept was to create a warm, elevated and artful space that invoked a sense of calm and welcoming spirit upon stepping into the space —and it’s even better in person so come on by!

Also check out the previous reel for some behind the scenes peeks of the process and the amazing team behind this project.

Last summer @demiandolive and I made a pact to hold each other accountable to make art. We worked in my studio together and both had existing paintings we wanted to resolve. We labored over them, changed them, discussed them and both even admitted we didn’t want to work on certain days but we showed up. Then life happened and summer was over and we didn’t see each other until recently at @julieahmad_art gallery when we realized that the same paintings we left unfinished almost a year ago were both not only finished —but hanging in the same gallery at the same time. ⚡️👯‍♀️ ✨
This would not have happened for me had Anna not pushed me to keep going.

Missing my Birdie Lou Stardust ⚡️ named for her meow chirp sounds, Louise Bourgeois and Ziggy Stardust. I rescued her this time 5 years ago and lost her last year to squamous cell carcinoma. She was the most amazing cat and went through so many health issues but was always sweet, strong and so cool. I have wanted to give her a tribute for awhile now and also mention that I had no idea cats could get cancer on their ears — usually white kitties that are fair. If anyone needs any information or guidance on this — please reach out as there are many things I wish I had known then. During her short time with us she was so loved and this was something that was nagging me that I never gave her a tribute because she really was one of the extra special ones. I am just happy to have had her for the time I did. by @kerricurtis
