April and May kicked off with a bang! Mabel had a grand mal seizure at school 😳It was her first and unknown territory. Super grateful for her team of people! Post seizure increased and intensified ticks/OCD/self harm 😢 It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster figuring out what meds help best. We’re managing pretty well for now. She has an upcoming MRI to get a better look. She had an EEG and though our efforts were mighty, (the nurse even complimented us on our teamwork 🥹❤️)Jeff and I held her as still as we could, but alas she still managed to create a little too much movement to get a solid reading. It’s kind of a waiting/monitoring game to see if she’ll have another.

Hattie took a visit to hang with Ruby in Fay! Their glorious time together included a concert and strawberry picking❤️, Jeff’s birthday - love him! 🥳, Perfect way to celebrate with new super groovy Bronco purchase 😍, all reunited and Hattie’s graduation! Holy moly! by @kerrielinjohnson

Top o’ the mornin to ya on this fine St Patrick’s Day! Mabel has worn an orange leprechaun mustache in the past so well, we felt the need to recreate such excellent style as best we could. Friday was her classroom celebration because the 17th fell on our spring break. Her most excellent and very loved teacher dresses up SO super fabulously for St. Patrick’s Day and we knew Mabel would greatly enjoy a lil matching 🍀 Today, on the actual day, Mabel had a procedure at the children’s hospital so, we dressed accordingly in all green attire for a lil extra luck 🍀 We postponed our shoes out for the Leprechaun to bring us gold coins due to the whole no eating cut off and plus, he was probs still snoozing during the dark early morning hours when we left home 💤 Happy St Patrick’s Day! Happy 16th Birthday to our sweet and sassy Mabel!
Sixteen years of growing and stretching us - sometimes we’re pretty stretched thin, but you have changed us for good. You have given us an extraordinary gift of perspective, to find joy in the ordinary and magic in all the little things, to have a greater empathy for others and you’ve given us love beyond measure. You love with your whole heart and to be loved by you has been the greatest blessing in our lives. You complete our family in a very special way ❤️ I feel extra lucky to be your Mama! Our beginnings together were pretty traumatic - I’m so grateful you and I survived babe! You have taught me how capable I am - how strong I can be. The teen years of development have been extra challenging. It’s felt like we’ve been robbed of all your silly quirks and expressive personality. It is beyond fun to see the cuteness, excitement and expressions come back - your giggles and claps are legit THE best!!!

Sometimes ya gotta do hard things to get to the very best things ❤️ This time hard things led to getting to hug our Ruby!!!!! It was SO fun to see her face and get in some quality family hang time! Hooray for family weekend at University of Arkansas!!!! Our RV rental had some pretty solid tricky moments, BUT it’s currently the best/only way for Mabel to travel so we could all be together.
Hattie got to play college student and stayed with Ruby at her dorm. Us girls fid some Fayetteville boutique shopping, toured Ruby’s Sorority House AOII - my favorite room was the banner room in the basement where they make all the banners! It was a dreamy craft room! Saw lots of fall foliage - so fun!!! Got beverages at USip - holy moly! SO yummy!!! Dare I say, it’s way better than Swig and the like!?! Ah-mazing!!! Got a pic of Ruby in front of her tree ❤️ Hit up the farmers market and got gorgeous flowers! Ate our Hugo’s hamburgers and played games together during the epic rain and thunderstorm prior to the football game. One lightning strike was SO close!!!! 😳 SO fun for Jeff, Ruby and Hattie to go to the game - extra fun to go in matching sweatshirts 🙌

Our RV park “Road Hog RV Park” - was bougie and full of Razorback fans! We felt a little underdressed in our lil RV next to some seriously deluxe set ups and decided Jeff needs to get an A drivers license so we can upgrade our ride next time. Mabel got the bed/bedroom so she’d have some personal space and Jeff and I slept on the bunks. I did my best to make them as comfy as possible and my lower bunk was pretty great for a lil nap sesh.

College student Ruby ❤️
Move in day for those planning on rushing was August 6th and it arrived SO quickly! Organizing and labeling was my jam! Our sweet friends offered to stay with Mabel so, we could go move in our Ruby Tuesday.

Got the keys in the morning and got to work!
It was a really looooong day of getting everything put together and it looked SO super cute when we were all done! We went to a late dinner - thankfully we found a Texas Roadhouse that was still open 👍 It’s a Ruby favorite and though we were slightly delirious from working hard all day we had a super fun last meal together. Then, we all hugged and said our goodbyes and watched her walk on into her dorm! 🥹

48 hrs at home and then, off to Maui for Ruby’s senior trip! The main goal = lots of swimming in the ocean and chillaxing. We never really adjusted to the time change and would get so sleepy pre sunset, but push on through so we could enjoy each and every one! We had a delightful spa day, a dolphin cruise - we saw so many and even a bunch of flying fish! Ate Açaí bowls a plenty, exploring new places like the lavender farm and watching artists blow glass. Making so many memories with my ladies was pretty darn fantastic! So fun to celebrate the recently graduated Ruby and have one last hoorah before my surgery scheduled the day after we got back 😳 (which was then postponed 🙄) taken in Maui, Hawaii by @kerrielinjohnson

Of course I got way sick right after camp - dang, but thankfully I recovered from the bed ridden and black lung coughing part to feeling much better while also having a most excellent squeaky voice. Very entertaining and perfect timing to be a responsible adult at Ruby’s orientation 😳. Whatever, I was a hoot! my excited voice was incredibly high pitched and a treat for all to enjoy!

We made a lunch pit stop at Costa Vida - we don’t have one by us and it’s very sad.

It was SO super fun to meet Ruby’s cute roommate and family! We could instantly tell they were going to have an excellent year!

We had to sit through SO much information! Woah! We got to take a look at a random dorm room in Ruby’s building to get an idea of what it would look like in real life.

Other highlights were showing Hattie the world’s smallest Walmart, strolling around campus -it’s legit SO incredibly beautiful! And, probably most importantly our love of Hugo’s burgers began 🤤 It’s SO yummy!!! by @kerrielinjohnson

After Ruby’s graduation I locked in on Girls camp prep 😅 Mabel and I had a pretty great send off ❤️ and we had many FaceTime chats while I was away.

I LOVE Girls Camp so much cause I get to be by my favorite girlies! Oh and I get better sleep at camp than I do at home. I got to be a leader for the older girls/YCLs and it was so extra fun to be by Hattie ❤️ I didn’t have my usual extra, extra enthusiasm - which has been the most bummer side effect of this whole face thing, but it was still the sweetest week livin’ it up with some of my very favorite ladies!!!

We had our first BFF college send off with Taylor 🥹

I was hoping by now I’d have a solution/conclusion post, but it’s not looking like a resolution is in sight so, let’s play catch up!

Prom for Ruby and Hattie! Looking so lovely! I was not quite as lovely..

Um…so…yeah…I’ve had an infection since March in the soft tissue of my face…there was some pretty significant swelling, multiple rounds of antibiotics up it took a while an a whole lot of back and forth between dental professionals and ENTs trying to figure out what was going on. After multiple CT scans, a tracer - my upper jaw made a perfect little hole to drain 🤢 the 🤢infection 🤢😳my endo put this little tool up on in there to get a real good look at my roots. It was pretty cool, but holy freakin hurt SO bad!!! I couldn’t help but think of it like a colonoscopy, but for your mouth 😳

However, since I’m extra in every possible way my cute lil struggling immune system can’t quite concur the infection completely. So, it caused bone in my face, sinus area and nose to deteriorate. Cool, cool, cool. I had to get two root canals due to the root exposure (the morning we left to take Ruby to college 🫠)and then, had surgery back in August to rebuild my facial,sinus area and jaw bone via bone grafting and a lil collagen to repair where my nasal area had broken down as well. The biopsy report ruled out it was tooth related (it manifested similarly to an abscess) I was really hoping the surgery would alleviate the pain, but alas it has not. Everyday my face feels like I just got a fresh root canal + sinus pressure + my teeth feel like they’re going to pop off + basically 8+ months of having a migraine every day. Needless to say, it’s been exhausting. My life as it is isn’t super sustainable (Mabel’s lack of sleeping = me🥴)and adding the mental drain of pain management…well, it’s been a rough go fo sho! I power through because I’m pretty solidly depended upon and many an exciting moment as a family. How to fix my face is TBD. The biggest bummer for me is just not feeling quite myself and missing out on a lot because I am so exhausted. I’m slower physically and mentally so everything feels like it takes me forever to get things done. Sheesh. ✌️ by @kerrielinjohnson
