Very 90’s but what an amazing memory!
We went on safari just outside of Johannesburg as just a tiny part of this epic adventure…16 days travelling and shooting around South Africa with a wonderful crew. A recent enquiry sparked an interesting conversation.
A publication loved this photo and wanted to use it in their magazine. The offer was credit but no payment.
This reminded me of something I feel strongly about:
Creative work has value.
Behind every image is a photographer’s skill, a model’s experience, years of training, equipment, travel, editing, planning and countless hours spent honing the craft.
Exposure and recognition can be wonderful but neither pays the bills, especially poignant now in an industry that is already feeling the impact of AI.
As creatives, we need to become more comfortable having conversations about fair compensation and professional respect.
Supporting artists, photographers, writers, designers and creators isn’t just good for individuals, it’s necessary to maintain the very industry that the enquiry came from!! 🙄

This weekend I had the privilege of helping my lovely friends @nigelcbarnes and @arianepoole.cosmetics at a wonderful charity event @belles.story.charity raising awareness for children’s organ donation and granting dreams to children with shorter lives and the incredible difference that can make to young lives and their families.

It was one of those events that reminds you how powerful a community can be when people come together for a cause bigger than themselves. There was laughter, learning, generosity and so much ❤️ in the room.

As if the day wasn’t already special enough, lovely Lyn gifted me some raffle tickets and, I was totally shocked to win the beautiful red dress from @katyawildmanlondon that I’d been wearing during the event! Sometimes life has a lovely way of surprising us when we least expect it! ❤️

But the real winners are the children and families who will benefit from the awareness raised and the conversations started. Organ donation is a gift that can transform lives, and every discussion helps create understanding and hope.

Here’s to kindness, community, and the extraordinary things that can happen when people come together for a good cause. ❤️
