I didn’t start a GLP-1 because I wanted to be smaller.
I started it because I was tired of feeling stuck.
I had been in the supplement world for years.
Doing all the “right” things.
The powders. The pills. The protocols.
I’d lose a couple pounds…
and then I’d stall.
Every single time.
And when nothing changed, the blame landed on me.

I’m a nurse by profession, so yes — I was curious about the shot.
But I also felt shame.
Like choosing help meant I was taking the easy way out.

But here’s the truth:
I live with multiple autoimmune conditions
and constant, relentless stress.
My body wasn’t broken.
It was exhausted.
GLP-1 wasn’t a shortcut.
It was support.
It quieted the food noise.
It allowed my body to finally respond.

And my truth is this — I want to set people free.
There is no shame in asking for help.
Medical support isn’t failure.
It’s care.
This wasn’t about vanity.
It was about freedom.

Friday update:

Still here in Texas! Rachel is recovering extremely well despite a few hiccups we are still dealing with.

She has reached the stage of wanting to be on the loose but is still a little unsteady to do so! (Means no rest for me!)

We are waiting for some insurance stuff for our next step! That is a huge prayer!

Thanks for all the prayers and help and support! It means the world to us!

And apparently Houston gets cold and windy! Haha! It’s 72° but the locals call this winter! Felt great for a walk for coffee! by @kerryperkinson

Here’s our update:

We got a new view!

We were supposed to be on a plane home today, instead we finally got out of PICU onto a regular floor!

Rachel is doing well just working on some strength and treating her blood clot! by @kerryperkinson

Sorry for my delay in updates!

Our days fly by and often mixed with great strides and great frustrations.

We are still in the ICU! Tomorrow should be a big day! Her last drain should come out and then we will attack a small clot that popped up!

Two brain surgeries in four weeks.

People keep telling me I’m strong.
That I’m resilient.
That they don’t know how I do it.

But what was I supposed to do?

She needs me.

So I learned the words I never wanted to know.
I signed the papers I never wanted to sign.
I handed my child over to surgeons twice in four weeks.
And I kept showing up.

Not because I’m fearless.
Not because I’m unusually strong.

Because I’m her mom.

I owe you all an update!

Time is weird in the hospital. The days are long and also fly right by. You lose track of days and time and if you brushed your teeth! 🤪

We are still in the ICU. Nothing major, just a few hiccups we are getting straightened out for Miss Rachel! And I am not mad about it! The nurses are the best and they LOVE Rachel well! One even brought her avocados because Rachel asked. ❤️❤️

Major brain surgery takes its toll in so many ways and she is also still in recovery from brain surgery 3 weeks ago.

This girl is so inspiring to me! I can’t imagine the pain and the toll on her sweet body!

Discharge hasn’t even been mentioned yet so not quite sure how long we are here for! We do have return flights but I have a strong feeling those may get delayed.

Thanks for praying for us all! Rachel is healing, I am surviving, Esther is awesome and my husband is a Rockstar! by @kerryperkinson

Good morning from Houston!

Rachel had a good night and a very early morning.

She was up at 5 to go to CT for a clot they are monitoring.

She has been doing PT/OT daily to gain some strength. Of course she does NOT love it!

Her poor arms are swollen from 2 IV that went bad and had to be pulled requiring 2 new ones.

We are still hanging out in the ICU. ❤️ and of course her sassiness has became a nurse fave!
Thanks for all the prayers, texts and messages! I read them all and cherish them!

I wish I saw the end in sight but the Lord is carrying us daily!

So many have asked what we need. Here is a link a friend set up. It has been a blessing to use for meals and Ubers and all the things you don’t plan for. I think there is a meal train floating around also and I will see if I can find that link.

Quiet day…. God is good!
That’s the update!

It was not a quiet night, I slept maybe 2-3 hours total and Rachel had some hiccups.

But today evened out! Happy Friday!

Praise God! One prayer answered!
She made it through surgery! 🙌

If you looked up a hemispherectomy, you will see it is removing half of her brain. MASSIVE surgery and she has a very large incision with drains in her head.

So when I share this is a praise, it is a hallelujah thank you Jesus type of praise!

We will still have a very large recovery ahead of us! She is currently in the ICU being very closely monitored.

Prayers for no infection, no fluid build up and that she can tolerate her meds!

We are thankful to be able to touch her and kiss her sweet cheeks!

At least we can finally exhale!
