Realizing I haven’t talked very much about white wines here. Let’s start with one of my all time favorites - Chenin Blanc from the Loire Valley. What makes this special? Perhaps the unique flavor profile coupled with the elegance and complexity. Chenin feels like the ugly step sister to white burgundy yet I would argue it’s as interesting and refined with a fantastic aging potential and yet a fraction of the price. This particular bottle is a gorgeous example of everything this grape can do. Brilliant acidity, depth, and body yet incredibly refreshing even on a hot LA summer night - smells like musty wet river rocks and tastes like lace with a hint of buttery peaches. Run don’t walk to @_melodyla_ to try this or any of the many lovely chenins they have available. taken in MELODY - Los Angeles by @kerrytalkswine

A perfect (and inexpensive!) example of what a white Rhône blend should taste like. Marsanne, Roussanne and Grenache Blanc. So clean and elegant with just a little depth and personality but a total crowd pleaser. And my gorgeous sister enjoying a glass. The perfect summer white. taken in jeninni kitchen + wine bar by @kerrytalkswine

Well it’s hard to believe but I don’t think I’ve posted yet about one of my all time favorite varietals, the one, the only Gamay. Now most of you probably associate Gamay with Beaujolais Nouveau, the super bright, juicy, light, zippy iteration that is common around Thanksgiving as it is tradition in Beaujolais to press, bottle and drink the less good grapes immediately after harvest. (Fun fact, this style of winemaking is how a lot of the natural wines that are so popular right now are also made). HOWEVER, that is only one expression of what this gorgeous grape can do. Here are two beautiful examples of unusual expressions of Gamay. ā€œLa Ninaā€ is wild and actually needs food (which is atypical for a light bodied wine) but is funky and complex. A very un-Gamay Gamay in the best way which is my favorite type of Gamay. The ā€œBiosophisteā€ is more refined and elegant but still dusty and unique. If you’re a red Burgundy or new world Pinot Noir fan do yourself a favor and indulge in a wild Gamay the next time you can, it just might surprise you and be your new favorite. Also if you’re in LA check out @voodoovinla aka my new favorite spot. taken in Voodoo Vin by @kerrytalkswine

Best Mencía I’ve had in forever at my new favorite wine bar @dunsmoor.la whose wine list was apparently currated by the legend @moderntaylor run don’t walk. Unfortunately we may have drunk them out of their last two bottles last night but they assured us more is on the way. Never heard of Mencía before? If you like Burgundy and are feeling a little adventurous this is the wine for you. I like to call it a Spanish Burgundy. A light bodied red with a ton of dimension and character. One part Burgundy, one part Rioja 100% delicious. taken in Glassell Park by @kerrytalkswine

Catching up on all the amazing wines while I was in France. This one is a standout. Do yourself a favor and the next time you’re in Paris go to the Bourse de Commerce (my favorite museum there!) and treat yourself to a glass of this white field blend that was made specifically for the museum restaurant that you won’t be able to get anywhere else. It’s a stunner. taken in Bourse de Commerce - Pinault Collection by @kerrytalkswine

THE BEST Aligoté! What is Aligoté you ask? It is one of the white varietals grown in Burgundy. Tired of your normal crisp refreshing white? Or maybe looking for something with a little more personality? I’m a big fan of Aligoté. It has lightness, crispness and good acidity on the front end but then has the round sumptuous Burgundian finish that I LOVE and is not typical for light bodied whites. Perfect with oysters or any other seafood. Still refreshing but a little more pizazz. Give it a try the next time you see it and if you can find this bottle buy them all! taken in La Rochelle by @kerrytalkswine
