It would have been the 4th edition of BXLBeerFest past weekend but unfortunately that little thing that has been a part of our lives for a while decided otherwise...
No 2020 edition of our festival, no new breweries to discover, no fab beers and unique moments to share with your friends, no enthusiast volunteers helping us out making a great festival, no... well, no fun 😕
Might as well dig into this little treasure to ease the pain a bit, our annual Cantillon blend for the #BXLBeerFest bottle pack; Grand Cru Bruoscella Brut anno 2019. A real gem with its fine carb, aroma and excellent taste.

🍺 Crianza ~ Brasserie de la Senne
A Brussels' interpretation of a Flanders Red, a prolific beer style finding its origin in West Flanders, think Rodenbach, Duchesse de Bourgogne, Vanderghinste...

This beer is a mixed fermentation beer where a classic ale yeast collabs with a 'wild', pitched or spontaneous, yeast and acidifying bacteria.
All this makes for an ultra complex beer where sweetness gets balanced by sourness, maltiness meets intense fruitiness and the extended barrel ageing accentuates the depth and complexity.
A whirlwind of flavors in one bottle!

There's a distinctive acidic note on the nose, more than in its better-known counterparts, which makes this a beer not for the faint-hearted.
The acidity clearly sets through in the aroma by delivering notes of sharp vinegar and solvent like ethyl acetate compounds. Neither is unusual in the style but here they are remarkably pronounced.

The acidity however doesn't carry over on the palate, at least not as strong as you'd think based on the aroma. The smell is there, the sour taste is there, the burn isn't.
Intense fruitiness, think cherries, berries, grapes, a funky phenolic touch and a caramel-like sweet touch complete this wonderful and refreshing beer.

🍺 Oude Geuze Boon Black Label 10' ~ Brouwerij Boon
A soft as ever Geuze with a touch of salinity and a hint of quince in the back. Very approachable, mellow mouthfeel, dry finish and enough complexity to keep things interesting. A blend based upon a selection of lambics with a high degree of fermentation.

🎵Carcass ~ Corporal Jigsore Quandary, from the 'Necroticism-Descanting the insalubrious' album. The transition album and step to ultimate glory. Going from a gory, obscure but path-breaking Grindcore band to a more melodic death metal band while still keeping a good feel with their gruesome roots. Legends!! 🤘🔥🔥

Welcome to...SKYE!
The Isle of Skye offers an amazing experience with its wild and untouched nature, dramatic mountain tops, greener-than green-valleys, rugged coast lines, waterfalls and winding roads that seem to lead to nowhere and everywhere all at once.

It's a place where you can easily lose track of time, surrounded by nature that looks complete unreal.

One little piece of advice: come prepared!
Book and plan your accomodation and connections(ferry), hikes and visits well in advance cause it can get crowded in high season. Planning leaves you more time to enjoy more of Skye!

A fresh Gueuze with a balanced acidity, nothing sharp or edgy, no vinegar or stomach burns. Clean, spritzy with hints of barnyard, wood and citrus. A perfect, delicious Oude Gueuze!

Fun fact --> 'Cavo Noevo' is a wordplay on the French term 'caveau nouveau' meaning 'new cellar' and directly refers to the conditioning improvements Hanssens installed to have a better caveau of lambics.

German post Black Metal or Blackgaze at its bleakest.
Cold, oppressive and hypnotic, balancing crushing darkness with moments of haunting melody.
