Less than a mile away, in Ellicott City, Howard County is having a music festival today.

The streets are packed. Restaurants are busy. Shops are full. Music is playing throughout downtown. People are coming from all over, spending money, enjoying themselves, and celebrating their community.

Meanwhile, here in Catonsville, it’s quiet.

That’s exactly what the Vortex was bringing to our town.

People came to Catonsville. They parked here. They ate here. They shopped here. They discovered local businesses. Families came out. Neighbors gathered. Our community had something to celebrate.

We could be having that same kind of day right here in Music City, Maryland.

Instead, the Vortex was pushed out.

It’s hard not to look down the road at what’s happening in another town and wonder what Catonsville could have looked like today if we had been allowed to keep building what we started.

We had something special. We were making our community better. And now it’s quiet. by @kevbarlive

It’s an absolute damn shame that years of hard work to create something positive for our community can be derailed by a few sad and pathetic people.

We worked our asses off to build a space for music, arts, families, and the community. A place where people could come together, have fun, and feel proud of where they live.

That kind of effort should be celebrated. It should be supported. Instead, it ended up in court.

It’s incredibly frustrating and honestly heartbreaking to watch something so many people poured their time, energy, and passion into get taken away.

People who work to make their community better should be applauded, not dragged through a legal fight.
