One year ago today…

I have videos on videos and it still isn’t enough. Take all the videos of your pup, the mundane stuff especially. Those are the memories that go first because we don’t think much of them in the moment. And it’s awfully painful to feel them slip away. Missing you hard today Lits ❤️ by @keverson52

My first visit up Rock Canyon since the loss of my Little came with an unexpected gift. On a sunny Friday afternoon, the walk up the trail was unsurprisingly busy with college students and families. On our way back down the canyon, Aimee and I pulled off to the side where a large boulder sits, one that Little would often perch herself on top of. I often referred to her as my little mountain goat due to her propensity for rock hopping. We took a moment to sit where my little mountain goat would have been, and no sooner than we sat down the trail got quiet. I looked up on the ridge and for about ten solitary minutes, I was given this moment with a mountain goat. Only one person passed by the whole time. I don’t know if the universe really provides these kinds of moments or if we look for them because it provides a bit of comfort, but I’ll take it either way.

Being in nature with Little brought me indescribable joy, and I miss it on a level I also can’t relate. Those days and moments were sacred to me, and it’s been hard to find that same joy in nature this past year when there is something so obviously missing. But the miracle of having a quiet moment up the canyon with that mountain goat when the odds should have sent group after group, it was hard not to feel like something special was happening here. Yes, it was hard to sit in the loss, and being outside will never be quite the same. But this experience showed me nature still provides, and that I can find new meaning and peace in the outdoors.

Been having some fun with @aimeeobs this summer. Happy birthday to this amazing woman. She is one of a kind and I love that we can be so authentically ourselves with each other. Here’s to another year of living the good life ❤️ by @keverson52

Snapdragons for my Little snapdragon. She earned that nickname as a result of her instinct to nip, commonly found in herding breeds. It was never malicious, but happened when excited because she knew we were going somewhere. In fact, there wasn’t one malicious bone in that sweet body, and the irony of something so loving and kind being taken from this world by someone so violent and cruel is not lost on me. This loss still weighs heavy on my heart, and the desire to allow anger and hatred consume me rather than focus on the good that came from such a perfect companion still wins from time to time. So, may the beauty in these snapdragons bring me back to center when my mind wants to reel; may they serve as a reminder of the beautiful moments and memories I was so fortunate to collect over 4 1/2 years; and may I smile when I look at them as I am brought to happier times.

Huge thanks to the unbelievably talented @emily.tattoos for this phenomenal piece. She was meticulous and thoughtful, which shows. Fun side note: I had asked for Littles eye color to be incorporated, particularly when she was a puppy. I’d say she captured it perfectly 🦋 by @keverson52

Had an absolute blast participating in Utah’s first ever women’s climbing competition! It was humbling while still empowering - easily the best vibes I’ve experienced in a comp environment.
