A birthday without you, Dad, doesn’t really feel like a birthday at all. First I lost Mom's tatertot casserole, then I lost your birthday phone call. And you. I'm a year older, and much more sad today. I miss having you wish me happy birthday. I miss YOU. We're on our own now, and life is a a lot dimmer than it used to be.

Mary McDonnell is absolutely one of the sweetest and most incredible actors I have ever met. I was so nervous to meet her because of course she played a such complex and layered character on Fall Of The House Of Usher (yes, I'm obsessed, I'm aware), but she is also the actress that helped teenage Kevin decide that I wanted to be an actor professionally, back when I watched her in Donnie Darko. She was seemed delighted to hear that. I told her it's because she's an actress that can say so much... without ever saying a word. If her character does say something, the WAY she says it is so deliberate. We discussed my favorite lines of hers from Usher, that wave at the end of Donnie Darko, and she was so happy to talk about intention, delivery, and the writing process–some of which she helped come up with, especially in Usher. We held up the line. It felt like talking to another passionate actor– not a celebrity. When she signed my photo, she forgot to sign her name. Then I forgot to get my photo. We had a good laugh. It was amazing.

...and all I wanted to do was call my Dad and tell him: "Dad, I met the actress from Dances With Wolves!" (Apparently I loved watching that woth Dad) Which would lead to him talking about her other films, and we'd finally have something movie-related to bond over. But I met her exactly 3 months after he died on June 4th. So I couldn't call. He would have been so excited and happy for me. He would have asked so many questions. And I cried afterwards because I couldn't make that call. Will never make that call. But I told him anyway, even if he didn't answer back. Thank you, Mary. What a DELIGHT to meet @mollycaitlynquinn today! She is a Flanagan actor (among many other things) and played Jenny on Fall Of The House of Usher by @flanaganfilm , playing Perry Usher's girlfriend (?). I got to tell her about being an actor and my goals one day of working with Mike. Before our our selfie, I pulled out the ACTUAL costumes from the show (and her episode) and she excitedly asked if she could wear the coat @sauriyann wore, and I threw on the on the robe. "Flanagan is gonna freak when he sees this!" I hope he does see it. 😁

She was genuinely kind and let me retake the photo because I felt looked awkward with all the downlighting of the ballroom. I still felt awkward, but that was the nervousness. Thank you, Molly, for having a little fun with me! taken in Dragon Con by @kevincroach83

I am in love with this beautiful NEW special edition of When The Tides Held The Moon from @rainbowcratebookbox . I adore this book. And this special edition comes right before my birthday–the first without my Dad. (One of a few gifts to myself) It's times like this, that little moments of happiness matter the most. Thank you, @vkelleyart , for such a beautiful story.
