Thank you @harvardhbs for inviting us to guest lecture in Moving Beyond Direct-To-Consumer led by Baker Foundation Professor Leonard Schlesinger, Marvin Bower Associate Professor Ayelet Israeli and Executive Fellow @mhiggins. Had so much fun presenting an immi case study about the challenges of our journey and it was an absolute dream to share this same stage alongside other guest lecturers like Gary Vaynerchuk, Kim Kardashian, Scarlett Johansson, The Chainsmokers, David Chang, Kevin O’Leary and the Founders/Presidents of Shopify, Walmart, Whoop, Mirror, Fear of God, Magic Spoon, MSCHF, Milk Bar, and more. And on a personal note: Dad, this one’s dedicated to you.For immigrating to this country with nothing so you could give me a chance for a better education. For when you slept overnight in a janitor’s closet to be first in line to give me a chance for a better primary school. For when you’d sit me down every night and ask me to teach you the day’s class subject material. I didn’t realize then that you might not have understood what I was teaching you. You just wanted to see in my eyes that I knew the content well enough to teach you. Over those years, you instilled in me a true love of learning and teaching. This was a dream we shared together and I’m so happy you got to see this happen.Thank you and mom for everything you sacrificed to give me a better life. I love you.@kchanthas I know there’s so much more to get done but I’m damn proud of us for getting here. And @jooooosie, thanks for supporting me every step of the way and being there for this special experience. I hope one day I can be just as good of a dad for our family. by @kevinleeme

Front page of Entrepreneur today 🙏. This is the longest feature @kchanthas and I have been lucky to be a part of to date. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀It’s also one we’re proud to share because we got to be extra vulnerable about how our cultural upbringing has both positively and negatively affected the way we’ve tried to run this business.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀At the end of the day, we’re trying to make as big of an impact as we can on improving health, influencing culture, lifting our communities, and showing future entrepreneurs that it’s okay to be kind on the way to the top ✌️. by @kevinleeme

Years ago, when my co-founder and I first had the idea for immi, we attended a food conference at Stanford and met one of the speakers who gave us a lesson we’ve carried with us ever since.Minh Tsai, founder of @hodofoods, is a Vietnamese refugee who left a long career in finance to pursue his passion in food. He learned the craft of tofu-making from world experts, and over the past decade has built Hodo into one of the most respected brands in the country, used by places like Chipotle, Sweetgreen, Benu, Single Thread, and more.We asked Minh for advice as first time founders coming from outside the food industry. He told us a story we didn’t expect.Back when the tofu industry was still early, Minh built his own manufacturing plant in Oakland and developed production methods far ahead of the curve. Then the industry hit a rough patch. Supply chain and manufacturing issues left many brands unable to get the inventory they needed to stay on shelf.Minh had a clear advantage. He controlled his own production. He could have taken market share. Instead, he went to his competitors and offered to produce their products in his facility. We were honestly confused. Why help competitors who would go on to compete directly with you on shelf? He said something we’ve never forgotten:“The market can be big enough for all of us. We have to support each other to grow it together.”Minh showed us the power of an abundance mindset and the importance of seeking positive sum solutions wherever possible. We’ve tried to carry that mindset into every decision we’ve made behind the scenes. Supporting other founders. Sharing what we’ve learned. Looking for positive sum outcomes, even when it’s not the obvious move.It was so good to see Minh this week to congratulate him on Hodo’s acquisition by Japanese conglomerate Calbee. Always love seeing good people win. by @kevinleeme
