Bye bye Summer 2026. You were a doozy, but you left me with even more gratitude for my people and community than I already had. Your days were as long as they were hot. And as a season, I’m glad you’re in my rearview. I’ll glance back fondly from time to time, thankful for all you showed me. ☀️ by @kevinwildt

Every so often, for a small window of time, life presents a composition. The best of them give quite a wallop, but there’s dozens glanced over all the time. Easily one of the finest gifts of an art practice is witnessing everyday, natural works of art. The photographer clocking a unique glimmer of light or shadow. The musician stumbling upon a melody or rhythm in the wild. And so on… today my collage eye was gifted the raw wood of a painted door, found underneath a restroom sign I had removed years ago. With sunlight bouncing off my car's windshield and double shining through the small rectangular window of the back shop door. Beaming through a stack of gridwall fixture pieces that lean together in the back storage area. Upon revisiting, the composition has already changed and the moment has passed, but I think I’ll ponder what caught my eye a little bit longer. taken in Vortex Souvenir by @kevinwildt

I’ll be bold, I’m not sure Vortex Souvenir will be around in this same form a year from now. Big decisions are in the forecast next year. This isn’t some grand announcement of closure, far from it, I’ve got some months to try and change the current. But the water is rough. Not just for me, but for all my small business comrades. If I’ve learned anything thus far in life though, nothing is permanent. Change doesn’t take away the power or lessen the impact of what once was. I’ve never put more effort into something than Vortex. Day in day out, I’ve learned a lot, and it’s still providing lessons. Lately I’ve begun reflecting how I’ll feel if the Vortex I’ve known ceases to be. All I’ve found is gratitude. Just immense and deep gratitude for others. I’m not trying to drum up sales with this post. Not the point. But in a season of giving I am going to encourage you to give consciously. If you shop, shop small. If you make, craft with your whole heart. If you can’t craft, buy directly from an artist or commission something beautiful. Just avoid corporations and big brand stores if you can please. They’ll never hold an ounce of gratitude the way us little guys do. 💜✨ taken in Vortex Souvenir by @kevinwildt

Took a quick solo trip to NYC to catch my favorite band (if that is such a thing) @nineinchnails. And to be honest, as I told a friend upon return, “I didn’t have a single good conversation with anybody the whole time I was there.” Between navigating trains and walking through the city exploring museums, I had quite a few quality conversations with myself though. Fortunately, that was exactly the point of this trip. There is a blissfulness dissolving into the city among millions of others doing the same. To sum it up simply, I had a blast. by @kevinwildt

It must have been between Summer 2020 and Fall 2021. The season you’d got your hands on a cheap 35mm Olympus XA rangefinder that made you forget all about those Leica cameras only Porsche owners could afford. A time when revolution and Revolutsia were top of mind for you. Where you met McPherson-ites that both set up shop in Wichita and made you feel like a brother. When the dream of leaving a door open on Douglas was rapidly becoming a reality …and you coerced a kindred spirit to steal their portrait, only to hear in return… “My turn.” taken in Wichita, Kansas by @kevinwildt

A couple medium format shots from a roll I had processed just down the road at @midwestfilmcompany. This was last summer, the diner building has moved to a permanent home across from @station8bbq, and the building near my house has been completely leveled. Seasons sure do change. by @kevinwildt

Tonight I had to experience the stillness outside in Wichita. The fluffiest of snow falling is such a juxtaposition to what’s happening out west. My heart and head are with my friends in California. by @kevinwildt

No better time to reflect on a week than a walk. Lots of moments and support to be thankful for in the last seven days. Happy Mother’s Day Mom. Thank you friends. Good girl Lou. 🐾 by @kevinwildt
