(Part 2 of 2) Diane & Kitty’s falling out (deleted scene). In this version, Diane decided to change her life of criminality and return all the stuff she stole, asking for Kitty to “go good” with her. For Kitty, this feels like a rejection of the foundation their relationship was built on, which I tried to represent through this sequence using the green necklace. She is so hurt that she goes down an even darker path.

The most challenging part of this sequence that I really wanted to make work was the splitscreen showing each character’s diverging path simultaneously. It’s really hard to direct an audience’s attention when there are two points of interest onscreen, and especially cutting within a splitscreen can become pretty disorienting. I tried to solve this by staggering the cuts on each side, frequently mirroring the compositions, using symbols/cliches that are easily readable even if you’re not paying full attention, and at the end of the day aiming for an “emotional” understanding of their opposite trajectories, rather than expecting all the details to land.
Obviously this post shows only a few panels from the sequence, but it is part of the DVD/digital extras as a deleted scene, so I’m sure you can track it down if you want to :)

(Part 1 of 2) Diane & Kitty deleted scene from an early version of The Bad Guys 2. Like in the Bad Guys books, they were originally former crewmates who had gone their separate ways.
I loved boarding this flashback showing the growth (and fallout) of their partnership. There was some real emotional weight there. Plus, young Kitty was so cute!
Ultimately we went in a different direction in the movie, but this board lives on in the deleted scenes :)

SWIPE -> for romantic tension, plus my credit on the big screen 😎
As head of story, I found remarkably little time to board sequences, and ended up jumping into small beats like this here and there where we wanted to try or add things. I got to choose the image to go with my credit, and went with a frame from this Wolf/Diane beat I boarded. I love how this moment turned out in the film—go check it out in theatres while you can!!

🎉🎉 They’re here! HAPPY BAD GUYS 2 RELEASE DAY!!! 🎉🎉 🐺🐍🦈🐟🕷️

I had the privilege of being the Head of Story on this incredibly fun, epic movie. Armed with a brilliant story team who were tasked with creating whole-cloth new heists, insane car chases, hilarious character moments, and some of the craziest action I’ve seen, we really tried to push the limits and deliver something that feels like a ride from start to finish. Go see it on the big screen (with the BIG sound)!

I did this piece while directing the custom animation for marketing for BG2.
It was ultimately produced and sent out into the world (though without the silhouette treatment). Much more polished than my boards on the feature!
