One of the biggest oversights I’ve seen over the past 12+ years as a hair & makeup artist is when it comes to booking your HMUA for your wedding day.

This may be a slightly controversial topic, but I feel like it’s something worth talking about.

Weddings can be expensive, and every couple has a different budget. Some choose a small, intimate celebration, while others plan a much larger wedding. There is absolutely nothing wrong with either you work within your means, and there are suppliers at different price points to suit different budgets.

But when it comes to choosing your hair & makeup artist, I think it’s important to consider the bigger picture.

If you love an artist’s work, that’s a great starting point. But take the time to understand their experience, how long they’ve been in the industry, their journey, their skill level and, ultimately, what goes into creating the work you’re drawn to.

Most established artists will have a website, portfolio and some form of pricing guide, so it can be helpful to do a little research before enquiring.

And something I really want to say is this: asking an artist to reduce their price because it doesn’t fit your budget isn’t fair.

Their pricing has been carefully considered based on their experience, time, expertise, products, kit, preparation and the service they provide. Asking them to justify or break down why they charge what they do can also feel quite disrespectful.

Instead, if someone is outside your budget, it’s absolutely okay to simply say, “Thank you so much, but unfortunately you’re outside what I’ve allocated.”

There will always be an artist who is the right fit for your budget, your style and your expectations. 🤍

And honestly, your hair and makeup are such an important part of how you feel on your wedding day.

Your dress, jewellery, hair and makeup all come together to create the way you see yourself and ultimately, how you’ll remember yourself in your photographs and films for years to come.

You deserve to look back and think:
“I felt like the absolute best version of me.”

Bridal season… we talk so much about the beautiful moments, the transformations, the excitement and the memories but not always about what it takes from you behind the scenes. 🤍

This summer in the UK, I poured so much of my mind, body and soul into every single bride and client I had the privilege of working with. And for that, I am SO incredibly grateful. Every face, every story, every morning start, every late finish… it genuinely means more to me than you know.

But the truth is, when you give so much of yourself to your clients, sometimes you come home with very little left for yourself.

It’s taken me some time to slow down, rest, reset and find my spark again. I’m still not quite back to 100%, but I’m definitely feeling more like myself and I’m learning that that’s okay too. ✨

Because this work is so much more than makeup and hair. We become part of some of the most important moments in people’s lives, and that is a privilege I’ll never take for granted.

So, to every single client who trusted me this summer thank you ♥️♥️

And to all the artists who are coming out of a busy bridal season feeling exhausted, emotional or a little lost… give yourself the same grace and care that you give everyone else.

You deserve to refill your own cup too. 🫶🏼
