To continue celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, I wanted to share a meaningful, thoughtful and delicious way Victoria shared her Peruvian roots with her school classmates last year by putting together a box of her favorite Peruvian snacks and treats. What a fun and easy way to connect with others through food, don’t you think?! 🇵🇪✨

This initiative started after we tried our first @universalyums box where we tried authentic snacks from a specific country so we could immerse in the culture.

We went to the ‘Peruvian Supermarket’ in Paterson, NJ and picked some of our favorites and classic snacks like @incakolausa, chocolates D’Onofrio, Chizitos and Canchita Chulpe (fried dried corn). Victoria did an excellent job at decorating each box with the Peruvian flag and addressing it to each of her friends. By putting together this box we wanted to:

✨Build connection: Food helps turn strangers into friends and brings friends closer to new cultures.
✨Share roots: A box of snacks lets you show off the flavors, colors, and traditions of your background.
✨Spark curiosity: Trying sweet or savory bites encourages others to ask questions and learn about your history.
✨Honor community: Sharing local treats celebrates the diverse cultures recognized during Hispanic Heritage Month. In our case, we wanted to honor our Peruvian culture.

✨HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH✨

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month is a meaningful way to honor the profound history, culture, and ongoing contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States✨

Between September 15th and October 15th is a dedicated time to engage with vibrant traditions, music, dance, literature, and traditional foods originating from Latin America. This is the perfect time to enhance even more my Peruvian roots with my family and friends. But to be honest, I do that all year round anyway! 😌✨

What better way to celebrate this special month than sharing the time we went to the Peruvian Consulate of New Jersey to officially pick up Victoria’s Peruvian National ID a few months ago. It was a day of so much pride and joy! And to end the day, nothing better than to eat at the best Peruvian restaurant in NJ with our friends at @jarana.nj Salud! 🇵🇪✨

Victoria, may you always be proud to be your mother’s daughter ❤️✨

✨ N E W S C H O O L , N E W M E M O R I E S ✨

And just like that, we have a 3rd grader!

Happy First Day (and a new life) at your new school Victoria. This will be the first of many new things coming. New friendships, new routines, new events, new connections, new memories…

Our community has welcomed us with open arms and we couldn’t be happier. Victoria has already had birthday parties, play dates, lemonade stands, walks with friends, school gatherings, and more. It’s like she was meant to be here. The way she is blossoming in these last few weeks is so precious to see. I’m so grateful to every kid, mom, school member and community for the love and support we’ve received.

Walking to school every morning is one of my new favorite parts of the day ❤️✨

✨ N Y C : M O M E D I T I O N✨

What a beautiful day it was Mother’s Day for me. I don’t know if it was that we gathered together including my mom, the handmade cards Victoria wrote for me, the pretty flowers Jim gifted to me, the perfect sunny warm Spring weather day or the fact that we live so close to the best city in the world, NYC. What a privilege to take a ferry ride and cross state lines just to have lunch. How lucky I am to be able to bring my daughter and her scooter for a ride next to the water in front of the Statue Liberty. The little Peruvian girl in me still thinks she is dreaming.

Maybe it was everything at all. I want to believe that it was the awareness and gratitude I have to have everything I have right now with me. A mother to hug, a daughter that can hug me. Motherhood is truly a profound journey, and taking a moment to count those blessings is so special.
