🔥First micro poem in a while! Also officially in my Lego era (the Monet set was a birthday present to myself). Alt text: I’m not sure who started the fire, or who taught me to use my voice for tinder, to feed the flames even as air hunger forces me into a smoulder;
But | like to think they would be humbled by the bedl made from ashes, the flint edge of my smile, and how I’ve learned to survive in the dark by @kghornung

Thank you to @theindypvd for publishing my poem, “July’s Curse,” in the October 7, 2004 edition. If you’d like to download a free copy of this poem you can do so by joining my author newsletter, link in bio. While this poem isn’t included in my poetry collection Too Jagged to Hold, you’ll notice some of the phrases are echoed in these later poems by @kghornung

reading “The Alchemist’s Journey, Part I: Putrefacation” from Too Jagged to Hold. I lament the erosion of security, the propagation of hatred, and the systems feeding us poison
I want change, I want healing, I want an end to this shell game by @kghornung

Books I can’t imagine giving away and why: The Red Book by Jung - most expensive book I ever bought & I love the illustrations, three books from my grandmother who was an English teacher- The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury, Selected Poems & Letters of Emily Dickinson, and The Annotated Frankenstein by Wolf, The Book of Symbols by The Archive for Research in Archetypal Symbols because it is beautiful and a gift, The Castle by Franz Kafka because he wrote about our society as it is today, The World of Keane by Walter Keane because I only learned how he stole his wife’s work years after reading this, and The Forgotten Beasts of Eld by Patricia McKillip because her writing amazes me and this was my mom’s copy by @kghornung

I’m so grateful to Karen Billing for interviewing me and writing the perfect article on my book for the Encinitas Advocate in the September 19th edition, “Resident’s poetry book ’Too Jagged to Hold’ is a journey through trauma, recovery.” I hope my story and poems are able to help other trauma survivors and people in recovery feel seen and heard 💖 alt text: a picture of a woman holding a newspaper by @kghornung
