It took nearly 6 years, but I finally finished it. It's published today in celebration of my mother's 84th birthday.

This is an interpretive model of the evolutionary history of Pleurothallis section Macrophyllae-Fasciculatae. Structured around the discovery of Pleurothallis tremens, a relict species with a unique pollination mechanism like those of the Neotropical Bulbophyllums, it establishes a practical field framework designed to simplify the identification and diagnosis of the species in this section.

Using approximately 6,936 photos from iNaturalist, supplemented with living plant material, it is the first large-scale analysis based primarily on field observations for any group within the Pleurothallidinae.

Vivosun A/C & Humidifier

🌿

I do not sell plants.

Visit khorchid.com for details about my setup and plant culture.

🌿

The Vivosun Aerolush A/C & Aerostream Humidifier have made the hobby fun again. These products are gamechangers. I can now simulate a cloud forest environment. The A/C is self-evaporating, so I no longer need a bucket to collect condensation. Their app controls both without requiring a separate control unit. After two months, my power bill dropped 20%.

🌿

Time to say good bye.

🌿

This is my last post on Instagram. I wanted to let everyone know that I've merged my two websites into one new one. The link to khorchid.com still works, but it redirects to my new research website, Compendium Pleurothallidinarum. All of my grow tent information can be found there under a tab named: Plant Culture Info.

Porroglossum eduardoi

🌿

🌿

The only Porroglossum species I've never been able to bloom... until now. Several years ago, I saw some photos of this species growing, and flowering, out of a Bromeliad leaf cup high up in a tree in Ecuador. I decided to try growing it in live sphagnum, and that seemed to work. 🤓 In my tent, it gets high light, and the max daytime temp is 64F (17C).

My 3-year old clump of Spanish Moss survived 7F (-14C) this past winter and is covered with tiny, yellowish-green flowers and tons of developing buds. It stays on this hanger, completely exposed year-round.

I haven't shown off the pings in a while. I don't know the names of any of these. They were a gift from a good friend. It's nice to enjoy plants occasionally without having to be an "expert".
