✨ A reintroduction! ✨

Sending a big welcome to those who are new to following my offerings this year! Whether we’ve connected in Raleigh, Asheville, or recently at private events in DC, or serendipitously through the Instagram algorithm - I’m so glad you’re here!

My name is Khaki Martin, and I am a sound healer, reiki master, and ceremonial guide. In my own life, music, sound, and energy healing were the beacons of light that guided me on a path of well-being, presence, loving devotion, spiritual depth, and personal growth. It’s an honor to now share the tools and practices that have helped me so much, with you. A little bit about me:

🌿 An extra big HELLO to Washington DC, my hometown, and my current home 12. My husband Jacob (and beagle pup Daisy) and I moved here from North Carolina in September and it feels amazing to be back in a new era of my life.

🌿 A powerful reiki session in 2016 activated my spiritual awakening, at a time when I hit a personal rock bottom while studying/working as a local tv news reporter in mid-Missouri. I always look back to this moment as a major catalyst that shifted my timeline to healing.

🌿 In my sound healing sessions, I work mostly with the human voice/singing, crystal alchemy bowls, drums/chimes, harmonium, and the harp. The harp is my newest instrument, been learning it for just about a year. Working with the voice is my particular passion, and I love to guide voice activation workshops that incorporate chanting and melodic vocal expression. My professional sound healing career began with a simple, wordless chant meditation I recorded for a friend’s podcast, using only voice and piano chords.

🌿 I’m equal parts obsessed with the science and mathematics of sound healing as well as the intangible, incomprehensible mystery of it all. If you know me I can talk for hours about frequencies, overtones, entrainment, the autonomic nervous system, neuroplasticity, etc.… while always connecting deeply with the fact that we’ll never truly understand it all, and that’s ok. 👉🏽((Continued in the next post)) taken in Washington D. 🌿 ((continued)) Over the past four years, I’ve shared my sound healing and offerings with thousands of people across the country. Some brands and institutions I’ve created experiences for include @sakaralife, @healhaus, @dartmouthcollege, @univmiami, and @loveshineplayfestival.

2024 has been a big year of transformation for me, and I know it’s been for many of you that I’ve talked to. The past few months in particular I’ve become intimate with the very adult themes of times of upheaval/change, the cycle of life/death, loss, hope, and grief. Emotions and circumstances that are, frankly, part of being human.

Life is often times incredibly difficult, and the touchstones that we have that anchor us back to the present moment, to gratitude, to love – are vital. I am so grateful to have these energetic practices that awaken that life force within, because they remind me of who I am and of my resilience through pain and joy, through highs and lows. And sharing these experiences with you, in the hopes that they could help you as it has helped me, makes it all worth it.

Stay tuned for announcements of DC events, and you can always get in touch directly to schedule a private sound bath or healing session, virtually or locally in-person. I will also be opening up distant reiki sessions soon, to support you as the holidays approach.

I am so appreciative of all of your support, hope to see you soon, and sending so much love!

Annnndd just like that it’s Fall in DC!!

It’s been a whirlwind of a summer - saying goodbye to our little life in Seattle, getting off the plane and being welcomed back east by the blazing swampy heat. Walking into an empty house, baby under my arm, and a yearning in my body - finally ready to settle and land our family firmly into the earth here.

Here we are, it’s mid-October and settle in we did. The rooms have furniture. Our bed is soft and warm. Daisy does zoomies around the backyard and Archer’s funky one-legged crawling has turned into the pitter-patter of little tiny steps, still unsteady underfoot.

In this season, I keep coming back to Cozy Creativity as my guiding light. Some thoughts and intentions guiding me right now:

1. For my creativity to be cozy, I’m ready to embody FREEDOM. What are the made up rules we follow in our on minds, of how we are “supposed” to do things? Nah, not serving me right now 😆. I loosen the shackles I strap to myself.

2. It may be something about being back in my hometown, I feel an undeniable call to return to the written word. It was in high school where my love of writing personal essay grew - we had an outstanding English department that nurtured self expression and engaging with language as a friend - a safe space for our authenticity and femininity. I’m ready to don that hat again (Substack incoming, haha).

3. And of course, the music. No matter what, coming home is coming home to the melodies, rhythms, the resonance of the tones. The earnestness of of making music. Time to bunker down as we all collectively turn inward, and surrender to the music asking to be channeled through me. In the purest way. Where you get swept up in the dance of the sounds in the room, bouncing off of clouds of melodies, memories, and potential. Let’s go 🍁🍂 taken in Washington D. C. by @khakimartin

WOW @loveshineplayfestival WHAT a weekend 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

My camera roll is thin, and that’s how you know it was a good time!!!! So intentional. So full of connection. Eyes meet and we smile on the street, passing each other on the way to class. The energy of curiosity and creativity and expression in the beautiful spaces we got to practice in.

This year’s fest is particularly meaningful to me, since I’ve taken a step back from teaching publicly this past year, after my initiation into motherhood. My cup is SO full after sharing my sound and my sessions with you all. The whisper in my soul that led me on the sound healers path in the first place is getting louder again. Clearer.

More to do. More to share. More sound. More love.

First and foremost, I dedicate this weekend of love, shine, and play (😉) to the incredible students. I am constantly in awe of you. Your presence, your passion, and commitment. It’s a ripple effect, and I feel all of your hearts in the pulse of this festival.

To those I’ve met for the first time, thank you for taking a chance on my offerings. To those that changed your schedules to come to more of my sessions, thank you for trusting me and coming back. To those familiar faces that shown me so much warmth year after year and that have become my biggest cheerleaders, I am humbled by your belief in me and my teachings, and am overwhelmed with gratitude.

You are all my teachers. Your presence and openness is the most moving and humbling gift to receive as a presenter. Thank you.

Not to mention being on a roster with so many incredible masters and teachers I admire…. It’s so insanely inspiring.

Gonna be sitting and vibrating in this energy for a while. More to do. More to come. More love.

Till next time, Asheville 🤍

At 23 years young I packed it all up and moved from NYC to Missouri to pursue a masters degree in Broadcast Journalism.

It was intense, and I was lonely. Mizzou’s J-school is no joke, and navigating my graduate level classes with being thrown into the deep end working as a reporter at KOMU was a huge culture shock, and I was struggling to cope.

By summer, my nervous system was fully crashing out. When off work, I was numbing myself with drugs, alcohol and dating. I had no sense of self, no anchor to hold on to. I was dating a really toxic guy and I found out he was cheating on me, which led to a panic attack. I just got in my car, and just drove off into mid-Missouri - needed to escape.

I ended up in Boonville, Missouri - and that’s when I had the reiki session that forever changed me, that kickstarted my spiritual awakening. It opened up the path for me to become the sound healer I am today, a decade later (chills!)

What’s interesting is, as I went back and looked through old photos from 2016, is that I barely have any! (and most of them are Snapchat screenshots lmao). The photos don’t show how deep my depression and how low my self-worth was, or how radically powerful that life-changing reiki session was. But wow, I am grateful for that year of hardship, rock bottoms, and spiritual highs - and especially for what came afterwards.

The second half of 2016 was beautiful, in so many aligned way. With a newfound focus on spirituality, I started peeling back the layers of who I truly was, and learning how to love her. I realized I preferred producing to reporting, and was able to switch more of my focus to that at KOMU.

Most importantly, little did I know that a few months after my rock bottom I would meet a cute younger guy at the TV Station that would become my life partner, father of my child, and the biggest supporter of my sound healing path. We closed out the year by telling each other ‘I Love You’ for the first time on NYE in New Orleans, where we would get married 5 years later ♥️ taken in Columbia, Missouri by @khakimartin

3 months of Archer. 3 months with my beautiful family and the deepest love for my boys I’ve ever known. 3 months of Becoming after birthing new life, as the physical and psychic wounds heal, and roots of strength grow down below.

Fortified, freeing. The mother is born.

The sun is getting harder to come by here in Seattle, but as the dark and the fog stretch the days long, I’ve been thinking a lot about community. I’m SO grateful for the community that has emerged around us, making a new city feel like home.

From new friends to reunions with old friends - family, love, and connection is all around. We are so grateful that Archer’s first 3 months on earth are marked by the warmth of being held within the woven web of humanity.

Sending you all so much love! taken in Seattle, Washington by @khakimartin
