📢 HUNGER ACTION DAY ANNOUNCEMENT!

As Chair of the New York State Task Force on Food, Farm and Nutrition Policy, I am excited to share with you all that today, I am launching a 45-day statewide food drive in partnership with @FeedingNYS @CityHarvestNYC @AllianceHungerFreeNY and over a dozen State Assembly Members across party lines to help fight food insecurity in NY!

This inaugural 2026 Task Force Food Drive is an opportunity for our upstate and downstate elected offices to come together to support our local food pantries and food banks. What better day than today to turn our collective commitment on combatting hunger into direct action to help families and individuals facing food insecurity across New York.

My heart is still heavy from this past week. 💔

Witnessing so many of our young people shed tears over the passing of Malakai Adams has been heartbreaking.

The amount of hugs given, the phone calls made just to check in and talk about life and their next moves, and the number of students who simply came into the office because they needed someone to listen…

It reminded me just how much our young people are carrying.

Some of them are trying to understand grief. Some are trying to understand life. Some are scared about what their future looks like. And some simply need a safe space where they can sit down, breathe, cry, talk, and know that somebody cares.

At such a young age, life can feel incredibly scary.

This is why Make My Mother Proud exists and will setup to do more.

Our youth don't always need us to have all the answers. Sometimes they just need us to show up, listen, hug them, encourage them, and remind them that their life has value and their future matters.

To every young person who cried, talked, called, hugged, or simply needed a moment this week, I see you. I hear you. And I am here for you.

We will continue to pour love, guidance, mentorship, and hope into our youth. Because every child deserves someone in their corner.

Rest peacefully, Malakai. 🕊️💙

We’re proud to join Assemblymember Khaleel Anderson, Chair of the New York State Assembly Task Force on Food, Farm & Nutrition Policy, and fellow Task Force members for the inaugural 2026 Task Force Food Drive! 🥫

Beginning today, Hunger Action Day, through November 13, our district office will be collecting non-perishable food donations to help support New Yorkers experiencing food insecurity. 🍎🥕🍚

📍 Drop off donations at:
60-14 Queens Boulevard, Lower Level
Woodside, NY 11377

Suggested donations include canned proteins, vegetables and fruits, soups, pasta, rice, cereal, oatmeal, peanut butter, dried beans, condiments, and other shelf-stable foods.

🚫 Please avoid glass jars, home-canned foods, unlabeled items, and food less than six months from its best-used-by date.

Every contribution, big or small, can help put food on a neighbor’s table. We’re grateful to Assemblymember Anderson for bringing offices across New York together for this important effort, and we hope our Queens neighbors will join us!
