A year of improvising life after death 🥀💃🏻🎭

July 2025: A month after my mom, the joyful and silly Ms. Jen, passed away (Allahyarhamha), I moved out to Dubai lost in the spin cycle of grief. A hand tattooed with stars reached through the churn and pulled me into her @dubomedy improv class where I met @send.a.noud , @imranatime , and @adithomas__ for the first time (and @sevrasmusson for the second time after standup). @minaliccione told me that these few hours of improv a week were the only hours she wasn’t grieving her father (the mighty Tony, Allahyarhamo) and I’m forever thankful for this gift of grace and escapism she gave me. Unknowingly, my inner clown woke up, engaged in the ADHD-friendly play of yes-and and teamwork.

After that first Dubomedy class, I told @imranatime I just wanted to keep playing games, so she led practice and shows @aj1881.uae, then when @sailor_volunteer kicked off @the.expression.lab the first seeds of @offscript.dxb germinated into shows @junctiondubai then regularly @rodeodriveibg. Throughout I had the privilege of continuing improv at @dubomedy’s Sunday Showcases @social.distrikt .

July 2026: Life, death, and improv have taught me that everyone is making it up and the points don’t matter, so you might as well live a life true to you. I learned from my mom that life is too short (like she was) to not be silly while holding it down.

Ms. Jen’s been gone a year but her whimsical legacy lives on, now in the company of a community of heartful (heart-full/he-artful) clowns 🎭 how lucky we are to have so many people and places in this city to be our silliest, joyous selves with💗 taken in Dubai, United Arab Emirates by @khalululululu
