🎷 What a year for the Cincinnati Jazz Academy!

Our 2025–2026 Impact Report is here, and we're so proud of what our young musicians accomplished:

🎶 107 students in grades 4–12 from 24 Cincinnati Public Schools, all receiving a 100% free music education

🌍 The first high school jazz group from Ohio to perform at the Lisbon International Youth Music Festival in Portugal

🗽 Bassist Cadence Okuwobi was the only student from Ohio selected for Carnegie Hall's NYO Jazz program

🏆 3 distinguished soloist awards at the Regional Essentially Ellington Festival at CCM

🎺 Performances at the Aronoff Center with Robin Eubanks, Memorial Hall, and opening night of the Cincinnati May Festival

The Cincinnati Jazz Academy is hitting the stage at CliftonFest 2026! 🎶 Catch our talented students performing alongside an incredible lineup of Cincinnati musicians and artists this Saturday, September 26, in the Gaslight Clifton neighborhood.

CliftonFest features nearly 20 local performers, 40+ art vendors, 25+ chalk artists, a free short film showcase at the Esquire Theatre, and so much more. Come out, support local music, and cheer on the Jazz Academy students!

🎨 Calling all local artists! This is your chance to share your work with your neighbors!

Kennedy Heights Arts Center is hosting Local Talent 2026, a non-juried neighborhood art exhibition celebrating the creativity of artists ages 14 and up who live in Kennedy Heights, Pleasant Ridge, Silverton, and Amberley Village.

Artists working in any medium are invited to submit one original artwork for the exhibition, on view October 17–December 12 at the Lindner Annex Gallery (6620 Montgomery Road).

Yes, it’s still 90 degrees outside. ☀️ But we’re already thinking about WINTERFEST! 🎄✨

Save the date for the 19th annual Kennedy Heights & Pleasant Ridge Winterfest on Friday, December 4. This free neighborhood celebration will fill Kennedy Heights Arts Center and the Lindner Annex with live music, holiday shopping, student performances, art activities, food and drinks, and plenty of festive fun for all ages.

Young artists will explore drawing, collage, sculpture, color, texture, and more through hands-on projects designed to build creative confidence and foundational art skills.

As part of Cultural Ties, our current exhibition exploring Latin American culture, identity, heritage, and representation, guest film curator Mary Leonard presents Sin Vergüenza, a compilation of short films featuring Latinx performers, alongside the feature-length film Carmita.

Following the screenings, Mary will lead a Q&A with the audience and share more about her ongoing Caribbean Eye film project.

A few spots are still open for fall classes! 🎨

Fall classes begin next week, and there’s still time to join us in the studio. Try something new with Fragments of Light: The Art of Glass Mosaics with Billie Cunningham, where you’ll learn glass cutting, design, layout, and grouting while creating your own mosaic piece. Or dive into Watercolor Discovery & Development with Beth Goldstein and explore everything from watercolor basics to more experimental techniques.

Both classes are $210 or sliding scale, with materials included. Classes meet in the KHAC Basement Studio, and space is limited!

Fragments of Light: Tuesdays, Sept. 15–Nov. 3, 6–8 PM

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening of Cultural Ties last weekend!

Now open through October 31st, Cultural Ties explores Latin American culture, identity, heritage, and representation through photography, mixed media, and film. The exhibition brings together work by Tina Gutierrez, Andrea Sabugo, Ximena Flores, and Rebecca Nava Soto, alongside Sin Vergüenza, a selection of short films curated by Mary Leonard.

A special thank you to the artists and filmmakers for sharing their work with our community, and to Mallory Feltz, our Director of Exhibitions and Public Art, for bringing this thoughtful exhibition together. She always does a beautiful job creating exhibitions that invite us to see, think, and engage in new ways.

And, as always, thank you to Will Jones for beautifully capturing the evening and giving us these photographs to remember it by.

Cultural Ties is part of the 2026 FotoFocus Biennial: The Long View.
