Our first @khawatnetwork event at @the.greekhouse was a feast in every way! 🤍✨

From falafels, fresh bread & hummus to sausages, halloumi and pastries — we were seriously in for a treat! 🫓🧆

But the best part? Seats full of gorgeous, talented and inspiring women 🥹🤍 It was so special meeting so many amazing women and being part of a community like this.

What does belonging mean when you're growing up between cultures? 💛

After moving from Jordan to New Zealand as a child, Eman Ghandour spent years searching for a sense of connection and community.

That journey inspired her to create the Khawat Network, a sisterhood that now supports more than 300 women from diverse backgrounds across Aotearoa.

Areej has opened the doors of Aleph Wellbeing and Development and invited us in, so we’re spending a Saturday morning finding out what it’s actually like working as a psychologist in Aotearoa. Not the version in the course handbook. The real one — the placements, the registration years, the days you hold space for everyone else and forget to leave any for yourself.

Five psychologists. Clinical, child and family, health, educational. Different backgrounds, different experience levels, different walks of life.

There aren’t many of us in this field. The women at this table are part of why that’s changing.

If psychology is where you’re heading — studying it, thinking about it, halfway through and unsure — this is the room. And if you’re just here to be around people building something, you’re in the right place too.

Did you know that many people in our communities don’t vote?

And it can impact us more than we realise — from policy and funding to the decisions that shape our everyday lives.

So this year, let’s help our parents, siblings, aunties, uncles, friends and whānau make sure they’re enrolled and ready to vote.

Because when more of us have a say, our communities are better represented.

We’re lucky to live in a country where we have the opportunity to help shape change.
