Where are we Going?
Soft sculpture with machine embroidery
2020 (as though there were any doubt)

A year? Almost.
March 13, 2020 I was out picking up Korean food for our Friday office lunch when my supervisor called to tell me to hurry back, we were packing up the office and going on hiatus for a few weeks. Carpooling home with a coworker, I had a feeling it would be more than a few weeks. We all did. I took a selfie.
A year later, I am in a different office, with a mask on at all times. I have a lanyard indicating which production zones I’m allowed in based on current testing regimens. I was tested this morning, for the second time in the week. When I started this job, I found the desk still filled with the detritus of its last inhabitant, the office neatly preserved in amber for the 10 months it sat idle. I think about the person who must have gone through my old desk, and wonder what they found. Tea? A spare phone charger? A to do list? What did I leave behind a year ago?

***Canceled** 2026 Guest Project: Kristen Heritage @kheritage_ curated by TEMPEST @tempest.gallery

Kristen Heritage is a Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary artist creating paintings, mixed media works and performance. Heritage’s figurative works explore the phenomenology of contemporary life, investing everyday scenes and objects with layers of symbol and myth. Under the music project 3rd Floor Ghost, she creates stripped-down folk rock borne on the power of her voice and expressive fingerstyle guitar technique. Heritage studied Fibers with a minor in Art History at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Heritage is the recipient of a 2021 New York City Artist’s Corps grant and has attended the ChaNorth Artist Residency and the 33 Officina Creativa residency in Toffia, Italy. She has exhibited and performed in group shows in New York City, Savannah, Georgia, and New York’s Hudson Valley and serves as a Co-director at TEMPEST Gallery in Ridgewood.

TEMPEST Gallery talks about art in a maelstrom. The gallery invites artists to broach difficult conversations, seek anti-imperialist frameworks and honor craft and cultural heritage in their practice in textiles, sculpture and installation. Launched in 2024, TEMPEST is based in the culturally rich neighborhood of Ridgewood, New York. Through their programming, they aim to create community and a space for gathering and presenting work.

Keep it cool this summer. Get out of the heat and enjoy a lineup of local NYC musicians at a cool spot! We’ve got it all—synthesizers, existential angst, wonky chord progressions and earnest meditations on the human condition 😎

Some snaps from @tarotparade_arcanacrawl back in May! It was a super magical experience—we paraded down the Long Island City waterfront as the sun set.

I took on Temperance, constructing my wings and robe in a feverish burst at the parade build workshops. Urns by @cweaverzeman.art ! taken in Hunts Point by @kheritage_

participated in a very fun art exchange with @tussle_magazine_projects this spring! For Before and After, artists mailed out small pieces to be transformed by another participating artist

I sent out a dreamy little drawing on vintage ledger paper, which @ralstonbonnie transformed with earthy and corrosive pigments! I received a panel painting using ferromagnetic pigments from @ryandawalt ; starting with some loose monopoly houses that spoke to the color of Ryan’s piece, I sourced materials and items from my dad’s house.

I found this project really delightful, it was nice to have an impetus to get out of my comfort zone and play with different approaches! You can see all the fruits of the exchange on tusslemagazine dot com by @kheritage_
