Ottawa-Montreal was a movie.

It was an absolute honour to be present at the International Board on Books for Young People @ibby.international World Congress to deliver a keynote on the power and potential of hip-hop as a form of literacy, and to take part in a panel with my fellow esteemed kidlit authors @nadialhohn_author, @kevinheronjones, @sadesmith_author, and @wandawriting as chair.

I was humbled to be introduced for my keynote by the cofounder of my legendary publisher @annick_press before speaking to an engaged crowd about one of my major passions in this life: hip-hop for education! Panel vibes were also incredible as bookish people from all over the world came to hear about Black realities in Canadian publishing from the people who truly know. There aren't that many of us, but trust there will be more and more!

Many a fine dinner was had at the IBBY conference and I got to cross paths again with On the Trapline author @davidrobertsonwriter! Love this guy! Please check out his incredible work. Oh and did I mention my wonderful literary agent @carlywatters took me out for lunch as well? Wish I'd snapped a pic! Thank you, Carly!

I made a quick train trip to the absolutely poppin city of Montreal on Saturday night to see my main man from time @shota_nagow. Beautiful catchup! And whose outdoor concert did we stumble upon in downtown Montreal but yxe's own @bigtones.oto and @zhethefree!! And the homies pulled me on stage for a freestyle! What is life?!

@sankofaspen book signing at @indigo back in Ottawa on Sunday, and dinner before sayin what's up to the absolutely incandescent @apollothechild on Monday before I skated home. Mans is one to watch!

A few bumps with the airline gettin back but we won't go there.😅

It is all gratitude from the boy. This was a big one. And I give thanks for the experience, and to all of y'all for your love and support. It's what got me here. 🙏🏾

Yesterday I had the privilege of hearing @avi.lewis speak with great conviction to a packed house of multi-generational listeners and activists at the Roxy Theatre in Saskatoon. As the new leader of Canada's federal NDP, Avi Lewis has a bold yet realistic vision to guide us toward a future in which Canada is more affordable, more equitable, more socially just, and more invested in clean energy solutions than ever before. Hearing him passionately stand up for the rights and futures of oil and gas workers, and detail the work his party has done with union after union across the country, was both novel and inspirational for a federal party leader. For the first time in a long time, I'm excited and hopeful about the possibility for change, and that's why I'm writing this. If we don't decide to show up for our flawed but promising country before it's commandeered by international corporate interests like those promoting AI data centres and other means of land and resource theft, who will? Who will continue to believe in the promise that Canada can be better, and work toward it?

No one. It's us. It has to be us.

It may feel at times like we are few, but not for long. Not if we begin now.

That's the hope I'm riding on after hearing Avi Lewis speak. He has my full support.

Hard to put today into words. Maybe photos will do. I am blessed to be able to bring a message of hope, unity, and change to my communities.

Thank you, Moose Jaw. Thank you, RADAR, thank you to the @mj_multicultural_council, and big up @vannahblaque for closing out the show with an incredible and uplifting performance.

Most of all, thank you to the inspiring young students of Peacock Collegiate here in my old hometown. You are the future. Bless up. 🙏🏾 by @khodidill

We’re celebrating Black History Month by looking back at some favorite pages from Little Black Lives Matter, a gorgeous and moving board book by @khodidill and @chelseacharlesillustration. Little Black Lives Matter empowers all children, but Black children especially, by affirming that their lives, however little they may yet be, matter. Featuring fifteen great Black heroes of the past and the powerful words they spoke and actions they took, Little Black Lives Matter is a rhyming board book that incorporates memorable quotations and a reminder to little ones that each of these great people once lived a little Black life themselves. by @khodidill
