When UB alumnus Quardean Lewis-Allen was growing up in Brownsville, Brooklyn, he had three favorite things he liked to draw—people, Pokémon, and buildings. Little did he know that he would go on to found Youth Design Center, East Brooklyn’s first nonprofit, youth-led creative agency and innovation hub. Today, they work to empower young people with the tools and support that he didn’t have back then.   Over 13 years, Youth Design Center’s impact has expanded across all five NYC boroughs, and their Brooklyn space hosts workshops in graphic design, digital media, 3D design and architecture, woodworking, photography, filmmaking, and more.   Quardean’s advice for students: “Volunteer for that off-site community engagement project that you think might take too much time, but it’s probably the one thing that you’ll remember most.”   Read more about Youth Design Center’s incredible work and impact (like how 70% of respondent alumni have secured meaningful income within 12 months of participating in the program, and 100% of high school students graduate) by visiting our profile.   #UBuffalo #UBuffaloArchPlan Photos courtesy of Youth Design Center and Lisseth Moreno by @khwar_deen
