She did it! 👏 Kia Bell is our #BeTheBoss Scholarship Winner – Spring 2026!

@kiaebell is a Brooklyn-based early childhood educator and the founder of @maxmaggiebooks: a children’s book series that teaches kids ages 3–6 about respect, kindness, and family through everyday stories.

Besides being a published author, Kia is also a lead teacher who has just been accepted to Harvard’s Graduate School of Education.

Her best advice to other women entrepreneurs?

“Just try it.” 🚀

Today, I was fortunate enough to visit Harvard University’s campus for the first time, and it all feels very real now.

This fall, I will be pursuing my Ed.M. in Education Leadership, Organizations, and Entrepreneurship at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and I am so ready! Ready to learn, ready to conduct meaningful research, ready to connect with others who are passionate about education, and ready to bring new ideas to my life’s work, including my Max & Maggie series.

I’m especially grateful that through a combination of grants and the Saul Zaentz Fellowship, my tuition is fully funded!

Five months ago, I wasn’t even thinking about grad school and had no idea this program existed. Once I found it, I knew this was exactly where I needed to be. It’s a great reminder that our lives can change very quickly if we are open, aware, and willing to make a move when the opportunity arises.

I’m looking forward to strengthening my ability to lead and build, and turning ideas into something tangible. I’ll see you all in August!

I had the chance to visit The Newport School as a guest author for their Brownsville Books and Brownies event. I read aloud my book, “Max Learns to Be a Gentleman,” and I loved hearing the children share their favorite parts of the story and what being kind looks like to them. Moments like that are why I wrote this book. “Max Learns to Be a Gentleman” is available on Amazon and makes a meaningful gift for the little ones in your life, especially during the holidays. 💙📚 taken in I.S. 184 the Newport School by @kiaebell

Stopped by @brooklynbookbodega today to grab a few new books for my class and to donate copies of my own book, Max Learns to Be a Gentleman. I love what this organization is doing for kids across NYC. Their mission is to help families build 100+ book homes, giving children real access to stories, knowledge, and imagination. They host free events, support literacy in the community, and make it possible for every child to feel like books belong to them. Grateful to be a small part of that mission and excited for Max to find his way into new little hands. 📚✨ by @kiaebell

One month ago, Max & Maggie’s Family Values became a reality thanks to 35 incredible backers who helped us raise $5,627 on Kickstarter! 🎉 I’m so thankful for every single person who believed in this project and made it possible. Now the books are officially available on Amazon. This is just the beginning! 💛

Got the chance to read Max Learns to Be a Gentleman to a group of little ones today, and their reactions melted my heart 🥹💛One said, “I want to be a gentleman like Max.”
And my favorite was, “Can we read it again?”

Watching them laugh, engage, and connect with the story reminded me why I created this series in the first place. These books are more than just bedtime stories, they help build character, confidence, and connection.

We’re 70% funded with only 8 days left. Thank you so much for your support so far. We’re getting close!

I did a thing!
My children’s book series Max & Maggie’s Family Values is officially live on Kickstarter! This project means so much to me—it’s all about helping kids grow up with strong character, confidence, and good values.

The books are being published professionally and will be available through Amazon, Walmart, and Barnes & Noble—but I need your help to bring them to life.
