Happy Thurday lovelies 🧡🍁! It’s almost weekend, YAY! I need it because things have been 𝒽𝑒𝒸𝓉𝒾𝒸.

I’m sharing one of my shots from our Scotland trip, watching the 𝒥𝒶𝒸𝑜𝒷𝒾𝓉𝑒 𝓈𝓉𝑒𝒶𝓂 𝓉𝓇𝒶𝒾𝓃 pass by was amazing! In light of keeping things real, swipe to see the non-edited, non-fall version of this picture as well. It was still magical though! There were even some tears 🥲.
I finished reading 𝒯𝒽𝑒 𝐼𝓃𝓋𝑜𝒸𝒶𝓉𝒾𝑜𝓃𝓈 over the weekend and gosh that story is going to stay with me for a really long time! It is so criminally underhyped!
I want to continue devoting this period to seasonal reads, I had planned to start One Dark Window. BUT being the problematic mood reader that I am I’m actually craving a dangerous, spicy enemies to lovers 😏. So I was also thinking of starting The Crimson Moth. Help a girlie out and tell me which one I should start!

Enjoy the weekend lovelies! A review to end this week 🫶🏼.

✨Witch of the Wolves by Kaylee Archer✨

𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐞: Romantasy 🧡🔮
Cordelia Levine is a free-spirited and independent witch living with her aunt in a Victorian age inspired society. Her enhanced smell comes in handy working at her aunt’s apothecary, dealing with the supernatural right underneath the noses of regular humans. However, it appears her great sense of smell has different origins as she’s a descendent of an alpha. Abducted by her father’s right hand Cordelia must fight the wrongful treatment of herself as a woman but also the growing feelings for her abductor, Bishop Daniels.

Ｔｈｏｕｇｈｔｓ
𝐃𝐨 𝐈 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝?
Not really, there’s definitely some good elements, interesting start but not captivating enough to recommend.

🖤Enemies to lovers
💍Arranged marriage

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝:
• Interesting setting, Victorian age, which was fun at the start but then took a backseat since the story moved away from that society, which was actually a pity.
• Likeable characters
• Good writing
• Decent spice

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐧’𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞:
• I was really interested and intrigued at the start but the story really started dragging about 35% in.
Too much of the same setting and storyline.
When some of the interesting things finally started happening towards the ending I was totally disengaged and even skipped parts.
• I didn’t really feel enough of the buildup to the spice. • The author tried to create tension but somehow I didn’t really feel it.
• Plot twist was not unexpected and somehow not very satisfying, it didn’t feel very imaginary.
• The witchcraft takes a bit of a backseat. The character does use some spells, but doesn’t learn a lot of new things concerning this (while she could). She’s to teach another girl some magic but we never actually see any of this, now that would’ve been interesting!

Happy Monday book lovers! ✨🕯️
I hope everyone’s doing great, I know I’ve been somewhat absent again 😬. I’m so so grateful for the people that are sticking around on here 🫶🏼.
I’m by no means taking a very long break, however it has become taxing to continually post. So to give you an update, I’m still here, I’ll still be posting, just not that much and the aesthetics might be different (less time-consuming). To give you guys some life updates: I’m still taking care of our baby full-time, but will be returning to work next week (YIKES 🫠) and we’re still house hunting to find our forever home.
Also while I’m looking forward to spring, I’m still pretending it’s autumn since the fun part of winter is over. 🍁🍄🎃

Hi lovely bookish friends 🧡🧡

I’ve been a bit absent the last two weeks since we’ve been house hunting like crazy. There was this one house we’d both set our hearts on but we got the news that it had gone to someone else 😢. We were really bummed out but alas, our search continues. It’s taken up a lot of my time, hence the absence but I think we’ll be searching a bit less crazy from now on 😅.

Anyways, I needed a pick-me-up so I’m sharing photos from our trip to Scotland last year! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 It truly was the most beautiful place we’ve ever visited. Plus the Scots are incredibly kind and among the most dog-friendly people we’ve met while travelling 🐕. So behold a Scottish photo dump.
I have this itinerary for a holiday to Scotland so if anyone’s interested dm me!

I hope everyone has a fun evening, we’ll be watching scary (the cosy kind) movies! 🍿

Ever since I read Krystal Sutherland’s novels I cannot recommend them enough! I absolutely loved House of Hollow but The Invocations blew my mind, it’s definitely top tier!
Both give gothic, witchy, spooky vibes so they’re perfect for autumn season. 🍁✨🕯️ I still have to post my review of The Invocations so you’ll see that on here shortly!
I’m so looking forward to what she publishes next. 🫶🏼

✨The Crimson Moth by Kristen Ciccarelli ✨

Once three powerful and ruthless witches ruled the land of the New Republic but after a revolution they were overthrown. Now witchcraft is outlawed and witches live in fear of persecution. In this oppressive world our fmc Rune has to navigate high society hiding that she’s a witch vigilante, saving other witches from a dreadful fate. She does so with the help from her close confidants Verity and Alex. Problem is that Alex’ brother, Gideon, is a witch hunter. It so happens that there’s mutual attraction between him and Rune. Tensions run high, Rune will have to make some tough choices and it turns out that the long lost past is much more important than one might think.

Maybe, it was a fun romantasy but I had higher expectations. There’s a lot of dubious pros and cons. I do feel like it’s slightly overhyped. 🫣 But it’s definitely a fun time!

• Fast read
• Interesting setting & society
• Very satisfying ending & plot twist!
• Interesting & satisfying love triangle (kind of love triangle?) + enemies to lovers
• Intriguing witchcraft

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐧’𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞:
• The plot sometimes stagnated.
• Some inconsistencies in plot, e.g. sometimes there’s this urgency for the fmc to do certain things but then it appears it takes ages before that actually happens.
• The writing’s good but too YA for my liking.
• Not enough world building, especially when it comes to the setting.

Witch of the Wolves by Kaylee Archer, which started well but ended up being disappointing.

The Whispering Night by Susan Dennard, the third book in The Luminaries trilogy, but I’m not a huge fan of the start so far. You can see the beautiful Illumicrate edition in the pictures!
Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas, I’ve been listening to ToG for the first time!

Ruthless Vows by Rebecca Ross, I loved Divine Rivals and I really need to get to continuing this duology.
Maybe The Ever King but I’m wondering whether I need to read The Broken Kingdom series first?

Happy Wednesday bookish friends, I hope life’s treating you well so far this week.
In these pictures you can see what life currently looks like for me 👶🏼🧡.
Reading means getting Rob to take a nap and me trying to wrestle a physical copy, which prompted me to finally buy an ereader! Plus I’ve been starting my favourite autumn rewatches. I always rewatch Twilight and Hocus Pocus, and Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings multiple times! ⚡️🖤

If you loved Bride by Ali Hazelwood and don’t want to accept criticism, don’t read my review because I don’t really have a lot of nice things to say 😬 and the knotting wasn’t the issue. I’m all for honest reviews but I don’t include a rating for them.

Maybe, if you’re looking for a romance that’s light on the fantasy.

𝑻𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒆𝒔?
Enemies to lovers 🖤
Forced proximity
Arranged marriage
Forbidden love
Werewolves and vampires 🩸

𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑰 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆𝒅:
- Good writing
- Likeable characters (although FMC Misery is slow to pick up on things)

𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑰 𝒅𝒊𝒅𝒏’𝒕 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆:
- Not really fantasy - read like a romance in which the main characters just happen to be a vampire and a werewolf
- Not enough world building
- Not enough happening since focus was on the romance. The one time something ‘else’ happens, them travelling to a different pack, is short and isn’t explored.
- Fanfic (don’t get me wrong, I love fanfic) that disguises itself as not being fanfic. Honestly there’s better stuff out there.
Spoilers from this point on
- Didn’t do anything different; is that always a must, no, but it is an expectation when the praise is so high, I expected more from an established author but actually there’s better fanfic on some platforms. E.g. being kidnapped and held hostage is a stapler for fanfic but in this story it didn’t do anything new and wasn’t even done that well. I just expected more…
- Unimaginative, copy paste of other fanfics and not always executed that well.
- The third act break-up, I have never read a more unbelievable and annoying third act break-up as this one. Lowe going ‘oh no, you’re not my mate’ all because he doesn’t want to ‘force’ her into it and although Misery was 100% convinced seconds before SHE BUYS IT. 🤦🏽‍♀️
- Predictable plot twists, of course daddy has something to do with it, there was something more going on with Serena and there was a different connection between her and Ana.
- That this is getting a plus 4 star rating on Goodreads is bewildering to me. 🫣
