Came across these photographs by architectural photographer Guillaume Amat documenting the preparation for Roland Garros. What we love is how spiritual they feel. The repetition of sweeping, brushing, marking lines. Groundskeepers moving across the clay almost like performers in a choreography that repeats itself every season. Before the crowds and the cameras, before the first serve, there’s this quieter ritual of building the court by hand. And the preparation itself becomes the artwork. Contributing a little piece to a show with a big cause that’s always been close to my heart. This work features a collaboration with my studio intern, Larry, during his short stint. Thanks to @toko__noma @kentansg for pulling this amazing gang together ✨ — ‘Host’ Year: 2023 Size: 63x63cm Framed Medium: Acrylic, Plaster on Linen ‘Host’ considers the surface as a site of reception. An unfinished painting is altered through an unanticipated encounter, where contact leaves a permanent trace. The work shifts from an authored image to a recorded event, where presence is embedded rather than depicted. The surface functions as both host and record, holding the residue of an intervention that was neither planned nor resisted. by @kiat_sg

Recently, a little pleasant surprise came in the form of a note a physicist friend wrote to me after seeing this little experiment. She studies cold atoms in systems where lasers arrange atoms into neat square lattices. In theory everything sits in orderly rows. In practice, the atoms refuse to behave so simply. Pro Staff Archaeology Uncovered my stack of rackets during Spring cleaning this year. Somewhere between teenage afternoons and now, only a fraction of the rackets survived the years. Different generations of the same idea with small evolutions with each reiteration. Thin beams + small heads = control>power. If the timing was off, you knew immediately. I still take them out occasionally for a hit but it’s unforgiving when your timing is off. But the reward when it pockets is priceless. Grateful to Deborah Lim for the invitation and trust to explore ‘Untitled Residue’ within AURA during Singapore Art Week. This installation was an experiment in slowing down. A way of connecting through resonance, and the things we don’t always see but still feel. To hold space for that kind of quiet attention, especially during the intensity of art week, felt both generous and rare. A deep appreciation as well to everyone who attended the session. Your presence, stillness, and openness were an essential part of the experience itself. At its core, Untitled Residue reflects on what remains after technology falls silent. By working with materials marked by use and time, the installation suggests that residue can be a place of possibility. Where forgotten structures are brought back into focus to offer a renewed sense of awareness, care, and connection. Thank you to the fellow artists Tuck Muntarbhorn @tuckbkk and Samantha Lee @samanthadotcom for shaping evenings (and the video) that invited reflection rather than urgency. And thank you to Syadiq, Cherry and Bryan for your assistance, patience and discussions as this came to life. To Marc and the Mandala team for the openness, and support throughout. Really missing the legendary Spirit. His music and unforgettable laugh will always stay with me. Spirit set the bar high in the DnB and Jungle scene, and this unreleased version of “International” (London mix) is a perfect example of his brilliance. The original track appeared on his sought after Stalker EP back in 2017. “Ray Gun” is a true Function classic. So when Kiljoy suggested we try our hand at it during his visit to the UK, I knew we had to make it happen. If anyone can capture the essence of what Spirit was all about, it’s Kiljoy. Big up @kiat_sg on the dope artwork as usual. by @kiat_sg
