When KIBATHECORSO was found wandering around downtown Atlanta in January of 2022, she weighed a mere 45lbs.

Her ears were still raw from the hack job she received as well as horribly infected. Female cane corso dogs usually weigh 90-100lbs. Their natural ears are medium length and floppy, very much like a boxer’s. Tails are naturally long but docked short. Humans do some messed up things to animals, in my opinion.

Her foster parents did an amazing job getting some weight on her and acclimatizing her to home life. After traumatically losing #ickythesuperdog on 12/1/21, I had no intentions of bringing another dog into my home so soon, but once I saw her face on Pet Finder, I KNEW she was a really good girl who had had a horrible life so far and deserved to at least be met. After all, a 60lb cane corso? Really?

I made the four+ hour drive from Savannah Ga to Atlanta Ga and the connection was almost instantaneous. I rented a pet friendly AirBNB and @dekalbanimals agreed to let me have a sleep over with (then named) Java. The next day we walked around downtown Atlanta visiting lots of shops and restaurants so I could try to get a feel for her energy. Java’s ability to calm herself so quickly (and on her own) was what immediately captured my attention (besides her beautiful exterior of course).

After Little 5 Points & the dog park, I was due to return Java to her foster parents. When I finally turned to leave, she tried to follow me! 🥺 Her foster mom and I both knew we were on to something special!

Since Java was heartworm positive (like most strays in the south) she still needed to go through the dangerous medical treatment necessary to save her life. Unfortunately her foster home was a little too lively, so we pushed heartworm treatment until she could rest quietly with me. 5/18/2022 Java became KIBATHECORSO and the rest…well it’s still unfolding!!!

Mastiffs have a certain, educated stubbornness to them. 🤣 Kiba can almost always tell when the camera is on and she is not a fan. 🤷🏻‍♀️
